Hey everyone, I really appreciate all of the feedback! It was great to hear a lot of real opinions, suggestions, and information about both systems. It was a lot of reading last night / this morning to catch up on everything, but I feel WAY more informed than before.
I made this post to get some information to help me make a good decision on a new console and I think with all of your help it did. Didn't make this to troll/start a huge debate on here, but I guess it comes with the territory on a forum where people are passionate about their gaming systems.
I made a random decision yesterday and pre-ordered the TTK PS4. I have enough store credit from previous trade ins at GameStop to make it affordable. Also will be trading in my 360 for an additional $100 off. So it looks like I will be starting from scratch, but I have enough friends on the PS+ network to make it fun.
Again, I really appreciate all of the feedback/suggestions/opinions from you guys. It was a great read and I think I learned all I needed to make the right decision for myself.
Also, thanks for all of the congratulations on me becoming a dad. Although I am still about 6 months out from having that new little one in my arms, I couldn't be more excited about it.
Thanks again, guardians.

I've had a Xbox 360 for a few years now and most of my friends either have a Xbox One or a PS4 (it's about a 50/50 split). I recently found out that I am going to be a dad (due late January 2016) and because of this and all of the future late nights that come with that in my future, I got permission from the wife to upgrade, so help me figure out what to get.
Since I am already a Microsoft user, obviously going with the Xbox One seems like the easiest one to upgrade to, but I'm open to suggestions.
For the Xbox, I am already familiar with the Xbox Live stuff and I'm already paying the yearly online fee, no need to cancel service etc.
If I upgrade to the Xbox One, do I need to start over with new characters or would my character carry over?
Is the Xbox One backwards compatible with my current 360 games (Destiny, Halo Series, GTA5) or do I have to buy new games no matter what?
Any other benefits to sticking with Microsoft?
As for the PS4, I don't have too much knowledge about this system. I've heard it's got better graphics, but I've also heard the online servers are unreliable leaving you unable to play often? Is it worth it? What other reasons make it worth switching?

If you like things like halo then go with Xboxone
-
It comes down to what you prefer and the tech inside. I have a ps4 but both consoles have benefits.

Ps4: better hardware Xbox one: better network Choose wisely
console wars are stupid, just pick what you want
-
Exclusives for now and for after Taken King comes out. PS4
-
Depends on which exclusives you want to play If it Destiny then PS If it Halo 5 and Gears 4 , get to play any EA title a week before release through EA Access then choose XBox

Spectrum ZX 128k+

By the way Xbox one will have backwards compatibility soon so another reason to get it

As someone who owns both. They are basically the same thing. That being said, I haven't turned on my ps4 in months. My main two reasons for this are simple. First, 90% of my friends play xbox (also, I had an Xbox 360 as well). Second, I like the xbox ui way...way better. I can't stand the ps4 ui. When it comes down to it ps4 fanboys and xbox fanboys can say whatever they want, but there isn't a really noticeable difference in graphics. In fact it would be very hard to notice unless you looked closely side by side. Other than that the only difference is exclusive games. The other features (such as Netflix and various apps) are exactly the same.

Backwards compatibility made it for me. Many of my friends traded their PS4s for X1s recently for that reason although I would have just advised them to have both.
-
Whatever you like (PS4 has worse players btw)
-
Go to whatever platform your friends are playing on! PS4 is more powerful, but from my experience Xbox can be more user-friendly and cooperative in the 'networking department' :D
-
As a ps4 owner you should get the Xbox. You are well established with that side so why change? Both consoles are great, and the only things that should really affect which you should buy is which games you like the most and how many of your friends play which.

85% of the ppl on x box r annoying spoiled kids ps4 has mature people and its overall a better console

PS4 = The Last of Us.

Console Peasant

Is this a serious question? PS4 is vastly superior, technically and Microsoft co tinues to okay stupid games with its clients. The business world (and gaming world) have made up their minds, xbix is officially dead. Btw, I'm a former xboxer.
-
If you own a 360 then your characters will carry over to the Xbox one. There's honestly not much of a difference between the 2 next gen consoles so just choose the one with more friends and games that you want to play
-
Above all, go with the system that has the most friends on it. You can own the best platform that the best specs in the world, but if you have 0 friends on it, you're going to have a lot less fun, guaranteed. If you have an equal spread of friends on either, just go with your preferred company. The PS4 and XB1 have similar specs, so it doesn't really matter in that regard, unless you think the number of pixels on the screen is a life-or-death matter.

I had an Xbox then an Xbox 360. I've also had a Ps1,2,3, and now a PS4. I would say get whatever console most of your friends are on, and the console that has the exclusives you'd want most. In my experience, especially with the new consoles, there isn't much difference other than the interface layout and the controllers which are pretty much negligible.
-
Just get an Xbox one. You're used to Microsoft I'm sure you got some friends on there and backwards compatibility is on its way
-
Get an Xbox if you wanna watch cable on your TV because there's no other possible way to watch cable on your TV.
