Looking to upgrade my console, tell me what I should get and why

Get a PS4

2769

Get a Xbox One

3310

################################# Hey everyone, I really appreciate all of the feedback! It was great to hear a lot of real opinions, suggestions, and information about both systems. It was a lot of reading last night / this morning to catch up on everything, but I feel WAY more informed than before. I made this post to get some information to help me make a good decision on a new console and I think with all of your help it did. Didn't make this to troll/start a huge debate on here, but I guess it comes with the territory on a forum where people are passionate about their gaming systems. I made a random decision yesterday and pre-ordered the TTK PS4. I have enough store credit from previous trade ins at GameStop to make it affordable. Also will be trading in my 360 for an additional $100 off. So it looks like I will be starting from scratch, but I have enough friends on the PS+ network to make it fun. Again, I really appreciate all of the feedback/suggestions/opinions from you guys. It was a great read and I think I learned all I needed to make the right decision for myself. Also, thanks for all of the congratulations on me becoming a dad. Although I am still about 6 months out from having that new little one in my arms, I couldn't be more excited about it. Thanks again, guardians. ################################# I've had a Xbox 360 for a few years now and most of my friends either have a Xbox One or a PS4 (it's about a 50/50 split). I recently found out that I am going to be a dad (due late January 2016) and because of this and all of the future late nights that come with that in my future, I got permission from the wife to upgrade, so help me figure out what to get. Since I am already a Microsoft user, obviously going with the Xbox One seems like the easiest one to upgrade to, but I'm open to suggestions. For the Xbox, I am already familiar with the Xbox Live stuff and I'm already paying the yearly online fee, no need to cancel service etc. If I upgrade to the Xbox One, do I need to start over with new characters or would my character carry over? Is the Xbox One backwards compatible with my current 360 games (Destiny, Halo Series, GTA5) or do I have to buy new games no matter what? Any other benefits to sticking with Microsoft? As for the PS4, I don't have too much knowledge about this system. I've heard it's got better graphics, but I've also heard the online servers are unreliable leaving you unable to play often? Is it worth it? What other reasons make it worth switching?

If you are going with PlayStation, then you might as well get the Taken King bundle. Personally, I'm going to be upgrading to Xbox One in about a month. The backwards compatibility is a huge reason why.

    • I recently just made the jump from 360 to Xbone and am fairly happy about it. The biggest draw for me wasn't changing communities and I kept all my characters without having to redo anything.

    • If you go xbox one all your friends and game stats and game progress will still be there, ps4 you would have to restart everything and none of you're friends would be the same you would have to make a new psn tag and everything

I would say get a Xbox. Some games will need to be bought again. Others will be compatible, destiny and gta5 allow save transfers to the next gen console. (Gta is the online data only and requires a R* social club account)

      • Honestly the ps4 interface is eons past the Xbox one. Everything is seamless and instant. I have both but I have destiny for Xbox and it's definitely not the superior experience.

              • PS4 has a sad excuse for an online community. I have both and I can say with confidence that the Xbox Ones community is significantly better. Also, when playing on PS4 I have noticed that people just simply aren't as good at PVP as the are on Xbone.

                • If you take a look at the games coming for PS4 and XB1 exclusively and then those that are coming for both, figure out which one gives you more of a chance to play the games you want to play. Both controllers are good, both will do pretty much the same things and both are quality consoles. I voted Xbox because I value their games more. I played And loved the Last of Us on PS3 and I really enjoyed the Resistance series, but nothing is really blowing me away on PS4 right now. All the games I'm most looking forward to will be available on both platforms, so I'm good with my decision. You probably won't regret either. Good luck.

                • I was pretty much in your shoes in September. I have always been an Xbot but I switched to ps4 this gen just to try something new. I can't really say I'm happy with my decision. The ps4 hasn't impressed. It's not bad but nothing worth leaving what you are comfortable with. Also ps4 just doesn't seem like a multiplayer console, most of their best games are single player and I'm really going to miss Xbox when halo drops

                • I have both, prefer the PS due to better specs and range of games so far. When games come out on both systems I still get them for the PS4.

                • Very close usually only friends are a big enough thing to help decide but seeing how that's not an option get the kne to keep your character. Both very good consoles. Whatever you get will be awesome

                  • I like both but one thing i will say is the Xbox is much slower at doing anything pretty much, loading, installing, navigating menu's but still enjoy Forza.

                  • Stick with xbox, the backwards compatibility works for games that you already bought on you 360 and xbox one. Also not to mention Fallout 4 gets mods on xbox.

Xbox one because you've probably played halo. And your characters carry from 360 to One. And with a kid you don't want to be grinding back to 34 :)

To be honest the biggest factor is what type of game do you enjoy playing the most? Which company has exclusives that cater more to your tastes. Most big name FPS games are multi console so those don't matter which console you get (for the most part there are some perks one console may have over another but the base game is available to all). So its more about your friends and the exclusives that are available. Since you have a Xbox previously with MS's new released information that they are allowing backwards compatibility for 360 games that is definitely a positive in the Xbox corner for your situation. Plus you already have the online subscription so you can continue rather than having to purchase this if you got a playstation. Now this being said from just pure games stand point the PS4 has won this generation in terms of being the best of the new systems. It has almost 2 times the number of sales as the Xbone does for this generation. And the PS4 is designed as mainly a gaming console that can also do other things (like Netflix and play blue rays). Where as the initial design of the Xbone was a all in one cable box system for your household entertainment that can (oh yea) play games. So the philosophies of the different companies are pretty apparent at least regarding their initial direction. Since this though MS has definitely taken strides to minimize this glaringly obvious gap in the difference between the consoles regarding gaming vs all in one (when you spend the first 45 min of your console announcement conference without even mentioning a game then its hard to argue that it is primarily a gaming console). For me personally staying with Sony was the better choice. Why? Friends that I already had plus more games that I enjoy....plus Naughty Dog (need anything else really be said about this?). But with the recent announcement regarding backwards compatibility and the fact that you have already paid for Live I would say Xbone would probably be your personal better choice (assuming that these are the deciding factors that I have mentioned). If MS didn't come out with backwards compatibility then I would have stated that for a gaming console you should get the PS4 since it has definitely been the console that has pushed games since day 1 vs MS who is just now catching on to the fact that a gaming console needs to be more about the games and less about the everything else it does.

                  • One of the best reasons to stick with Xbox honestly is the controller. I was a PS guy until the 360 came out. The Xbox controllers are better in every way possible, and that continued with the One. When I pick up a PS controller now, I'm reminded just how oddly they are designed. None of it makes sense. Secondly, Xbox live has been and continues to be better than psn, for now. The ps4 hardware is great, but behind the scenes ms is still smoking them. Glad I switched.

                    • I would stick to xbone. Your characters do transfer and this fall you will be able to play with any friends that still use the 360, along with reverse compatibility. (I am biased because I only have the xbone, so keep that in mind.)
