Since using the new features, I never noticed any purpose of the following button. I have several people followed but do not get any type of notification or anything if they post or something. Am I missing out on something here? Or what does the follow button actually do?

I follow thread creators mostly. So when they create a thread, it's easier to spot. But the main purpose is to go to thw activity bar, and see what the people you're following are doing. Replying to certain threads, liking something, etc.

I guess its like a twitter layout.

all about the activity bar. I'm using it on folks that don''t post much, but usually have interesting stuff that I won't have to miss now. I feel like I can keep up with goings on way easier, even when I only have time once a week.

Go to Activity. It's under Forum on the drop down menu. It will have things from the people you follow

Sew children don't get separated from there parents inn crowded posts. Obviously.

You get to see the threads posted by the people you choose to follow outlined on the forum pages and you can see their posted pictures/gifs/videos without clicking on them first.
