A religion is an organized collection of beliefs, cultural systems, and world views that relate humanity to an order of existence. Many religions have narratives, symbols, and sacred histories that aim to explain the meaning of life, the origin of life, or the Universe.
Buddhism fits user that.

If you search up the definition of religion in the dictionary, it reads: "The belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a god." Buddhism is more a set of ideals/principles than anything else. It can't be called a religion.

Edited by Pagliacci: 7/11/2015 10:43:04 AMReligion involves God. Buddhism is a set of ideals/principles that lacks any ties to a god, and thus is not a religion. Whether you believe it is a religion or not is your choice, no use in us arguing.

Religion does not inherently involve a god or gods. Often it does, but not always. In every source I listed there is a definition of religion that Buddhism falls under. Buddhism is more than a code of ethical conduct, it's a view on the supernatural structure of the universe.
