2589 is the furthest point in the lore Bungie defined in any way. Prior to Halo: Reach, the furthest point Bungie defined was March 3rd, 2553.
The furthest point 343i's defined is 2559 though. You can read about that year in Halo: Evolutions' short story 'The Return'.
