Because thorn has scout range and all too often the crucible is swarmed in thornadoes.

I've been Two shoted by Thorn across the map... I hate Thorn

Heck the last word which shows as having NO range has scout rifle range to be honest. It is sad how hand cannons have been designed in this game. The two exotic hand cannons are just a mess in the crucible.
