Not sure what midgies are, but plenty of cane toads during summer. Drove up from NSW a few years back, and played a game with myself to see how many I could squash. It was a particularly humid summer, and it had just rained, so the road was littered with them. I lost somewhere after 180.

That brought back memory's of driving into Townsville years ago, miles of toads on the road. You must be inland a bit if little mossies or sandflys

You'd guess if I even gave you the hint I was about to, so all I'll say is it's a ways south of Townesville, but north of Brissy. Can't be too specific, need to keep [i]some[/i] aspect of anonymity on the net. :p
