There is no reason to get an xbox over a ps4 unless you're a huge fanboy towards either halo or gears. They're great series, but unless that's what you spend 50% of your time on, then the xbox has no advantage. If backwards compatibility is your selling point, then keep the old system. I have my ps3 right next to my ps4 and just switch inputs if I want to play an old game, not that hard. It took Microsoft two years since launch to get the system back to where it should have been when it launched, which is just sad.
