Xbox 1 is going to become backwards compatible soon and yes your character transfers with you live account. Also id say xbox1 mostly because I don't like play station controlers

backwards compatibility is limited, only 20 to 30 games are going to support it upon launch, the developers have to make modifications to their games for it to work. I don't see very many doing so, i see more and more remastered versions are going to happen instead since they can resell it and profit off it again.
