Won't the Gjally nerf backfire?

Now with Gjally's wolfpack rounds getting nerfed and its effectivity reduced. I've thought about something: won't most people want even more people with a gjally after the nerf? Before, few people would accept others without it because they already had enough firepower to deal with the objective. After the nerf have been applied, I believe the it will only promote even more elitism amongst the already toxicated player base. Everytime I visit the LFG forums a lot of the post contain a "must have gjally" requirement. By nerfing the wolfpack rounds, people will feel the need to only accept gjallys to accumulate for the nerf introduced, thus resulting a backfire to this nerf's original intent. To eliminate exclusivity. Any thoughts? Edit 1: To admit, I've never owned a Gjally before and I've played since day one. I have already had much trouble trying to get into a raid or PoE team. Edit 2: Better formulated the op.

No because now rocket launchers they design like dragons breath can actually outdamage it if used properly. The people who just want to shoot something in the general direction of enemies can still use gally. Also now heavy machine guns will be a viable option in PVE.

  • There barely nerfing it all so why all the complaints. Lol.

  • Not sure why people don't understand this; the nerf isn't going make anything irrelevant. That being said ghally is still going to be good just like all the other weapons. BH is still going to be a beast of a sniper until something comes along with better base stats and better perks of course. Same goes for all the other weapons. Regardless of the nerf I still see lots of people posting "have max ghally". However since they haven't told us the exact % of fan age reduction on wolf pack rounds it's hard to make an accurate guess..

  • There was no point to nerfing ghorn. To fix the ghorn required they should have added matchmaking to raids.

  • I can see that, i think we have to see how much damage is nerfed away...i personally will never turn someone away for not having 1 gun...but someone without an arsenal of weapons is tough to deal with

  • It won't if it gets nerfed enough that it does similar damage to other legendary and exotic heavy weps. 👍

    • I feel the same but hope it doesnt, when I raid I always say no requirements needed to give newer players the chance to get theough raids

    • That's like saying everybody is going to say Thorn only in anything crucible LFG since it's getting nerfed to compensate the nerf.

      • I have never rejected anyone before that didn't have gally. When ttk drops even if gally isn't the most effective weapon anymore gally will be an 100% requirement even if they want to use something else, that's fine but you must prove you have gally first.

That makes no sense to me, why ask for a weopon to try and equal what it was? When a sniper or primaries on skolas do just as fine if not better, crota u dont need gally like it is, hunger, truth, and good legendaries are good for crota. On strikes gally is so you can rush past everything. Only scrubs use gally on atheon. So no point in it becoming a more sought out gun

      • you can easily solo crota without a ghorn, and poe you don't need a ghorn. I beat skolas plenty of times with out it and without even a decent sniper

      • Not if they sell it. Then you can't discriminate. I actually hope they nerf it to the point is is equal with other rockets, because I really don't want to use the same damn gun for every encounter.

      • Go join a clan where they won't care if you have a gjallarhorn to do raids/PoE. With a good clan, the clan's board becomes a near real time LFG center for pick up games with like minded people. If more people had done this, with less complaining about/using LFG, then the nerf might never have happened.

        • Totally agree. People will ask for 6 Gallys in Crota even thought Hungers or similar will do just fine.

          • There are already groups that what ghorn only. I like to avoid those kind of groups. You don't need ghorn to complete any of the content. When the patch comes out I'll be happy to use some of the buffed weapons or any of the new weapons that comes with the taken king instead of using ghorn all the time.

          • I agree, before a lot of these teams were fine with only a couple Gjallarhorns, now these team will be all 6 must have Gjally.

The longer Bungie takes to nerf Gjallarhorn the worse the elitist situation will get. Before Gjallarhorn became widespread, experienced raiders were forced to teach newer players the raid mechanics. People were forced to learn how to carry their own weight. But when gjallarhorn became more widespread, -blam!-ing entitled shits felt that they could go into a raid with lousy equipment and zero knowledge and still complete it because others were carrying them with Gjallarhorn. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. While many felt they were "helping" people by carrying them through raids with Gjallarhorn, what that actually did was breed a generation of shitty raiders and a "carrying" culture. People demand gjallarhorn because they can't expect reliable raiders anymore. You don't need Gjallarhorn for any of the raids. Atheon is downed in two runs with a team using half-decent legendary snipers. Crota kneels with 4 shots from maxed blue rockets. It has become a crutch and people are leaning so heavily on it that they'll collapse when it gets cut down.

          • The Gjallynerf won't do anything if you know how to use it way more effectively. Source: My amount of kills with Gjallarhorn.

            • The gjallerhorn will still be the best PvE exotic. It will still beat truth, dragon's breath, and the lmgs. So no, no one will say "well, truth is now as good as the gjallerhorn, I guess we don't HAVE to have a ghorn." There still won't be a replacement for the ghorn, it just does less damage. So to meet the same damage output, the fireteam will need more ghorns. It currently takes two rockets to bring down crota on hard. With the nerf it will most likely take three. So they just added another member of the team who needs a ghorn. So really, they just made the problem worse.

              • look at it this way, what if gally was just nerfed to the point where it is still powerful, but other exotics can now compete for max damage, If thunder lord, truth, or even dragons breath are all at a point where they can compete with the gally, that gives more options for max damage, which in turn gives LFG's a bigger selection of must have weapons, which mellows out the must have gally situation.

                • Well from past experiences from other games the elitism isn't that bad as suppose to WoW back in the day you had to have all the right gear right spec be able to carry your weight and everyone could tell if you weren't with dps meters and to get into any respectable raid guild you had to submit a resume oh and maybe you had to be older than 17 (which I lied about for a year or so) so just people saying must have a gally isn't that bad not defending because the job can still get done without it I mean a player with that just started 2 weeks ago can get gally and be a noob but I think this is linked to another problem and that would be lack of clan/guild support I know we have clans and it only support from bnet but it's not supported ingame so vast majority of players are always looking for randoms to make a PUG so people will always look for the path of least resistance want randoms to have gally cuz does so much DPS nobody want to carry every time they do a raid or really anything don't get me wrong I don't mind teaching or helping people but sometime I want to cruise threw a raid
