Advice on Quiting Destiny

Now this isn't some "I'm sick of Destiny and all it's bullshit!" rant post. I'm honestly thinking of quiting Destiny all together. So why don't I just leave? Because I feel addicted. For the past 9 or so months, I feel like my life and all my free time has revolved around Destiny. No other video game has consumed so much of my life like Destiny has. It would be one thing if I really enjoyed the game, but half the time I don't, I just find it frustrating. Recently one of my closest friends, who played Destiny with me a bunch, completely deleted Destiny from his hard drive and confessed that "it was an unhealthy habit". I wasn't in the slighest bit upset. Inatead i felt proud of him, because I agree, it is an unhealthy habit. Now i'm not sure if I could ever bring my self to delete all my hard work in Destiny. After all; I have this weird philosophy that you should never get rid of proof of labor. And even though it's just a video game, I feel as though I have put a lot of hard work into Destiny. But i'm getting a bit desperate. I may be asking the wrong group here, but here goes nothing. What advice can you guys give on how to quit Destiny? I've been trying to fill in the gap by playing other video games, but I have nothing new to play, and other games just aren't keeping me quite as entertained (it's like Destiny is crack and other video games just feel like weaker, lesser drugs). When I discovered the Mass Effect series in January of this year (amazing series btw), I felt like I could just enjoy Mass Effect whenever I got frustrated with Destiny. Now that i've beat that trilogy, i've got very little to occupy my free time other than Destiny. This addiction has got to stop. I have no incentive to play this game anymore, and yet it's all I think about. Some people may say to "just pace yourself better and play in smaller sessions", but i'm too affraid I'll get sucked in all over again. I never tought that i'd look at "3 days of no Destiny" as a milestone! So what advice can any of y'all give on how I can quit the addiction that is Destiny?

  • Play through Master Chief collection (as it is an actually good game. That will take up a large amount of time

  • Delete the game from your hard drive, sell the disc, block out the forums. Biggest step is that initial push from breaking. I had to do the same thing and it was brutal for a week. Now I can play destiny about an hour with some friends once a week and it's relieving.

    • Play other games and go out with friends. If you have a girlfriend spend more time with her. If you are single found ways to go out with girls.

    • I've tried twice to quit, but peer pressure has brought me back. Doesn't matter, I play Advanced warfare and GTA and halo on the side.

    • Addiction to anything is not a good habit. I also find it very addictive. I force myself to take time off of all gaming to give myself a break. I've gone off for a month at a time twice since September. Anything can be bad if it is done in excess. You have to decide for yourself "what is excess?". If you don't enjoy it, and still play, that is unhealthy. Only you can decide though. I might try taking a week or 2 off, and see how ya do. Also. Just because it's unhealthy for a friend, doesn't mean it's unhealthy for you.

    • If you're quitting the best time is now! Take the game to GameStop sell it before its too late. The value of the game is probably going to go down quickly if the TTK is bad.

    • Admitting you have a problem is the first step. "Hi,my name is flat pancake, and I'm a destiny addict" (Crowd responds back in sync) "Hi flat pancake"

    • Delete the game from your hard drive. You'll stop playing but all your items are stored in the servers. If you ever want to come back you can just pick off from where you left off. Now that's the way I would do it. Don't follow in the steps of a two year old and delete all your things and rage on the forums.

    • I'm with you man. Been here from the beginning but I feel like it's become an addiction type thing now. I've actually had less desire to play lately and started playing elder scrolls.

    • To break an addiction you need to change habits. Maybe call some friends and go have some fun with them or catch up with family. Read a book or some comics, watch some movies or TV series. Fix stuff around the house. You'll find you have less time for gaming and destiny will won't even be a thing. I would try to avoid replacing it with another game for the short term at least. Hope that helps and good luck!

Is not the game, is you. I used to play lineage 2, then world of warcraft (15 years combined before destiny) and so many games in between. We are just gamers.

      • Why would you quit a game because you found it addicting? Isn't that the whole point of gaming to find a game that is so fun that you want to play it over and over again? Would you rather play a game that sucked so bad that you never wanted to touch it again? That seems counterintuitive.

      • Dude I'm in the exact same boat destiny is the only thing i think about no other games give me entertainment like destiny I have max characters and all exotic armor and weapons I have no reason to play but its like you said its an addiction i enjoy it but I play way to much

      • If you want to quit because of an addiction. Then try break the habits. Do one thing you love doing that's not Destiny, at the exact time you would usually start playing Destiny. If you're occupied with something else that's not Destiny, you are less likely to think about it. It helps more if it's not video games altogether. Now if you want to quit just because you are upset with certain things going on in updates and what not but you are still having fun ingame then I think you are just thinking you need to quit even though you are having fun. Play until you feel burnt out. Then you can always take a break or stop playing if you get bored.

      • Play less and less of Destiny. I used to play whenever I had time. Then I changed to only playing at night. Now, I sometimes don't even play it. Play other games or do different things.
