They're kinda close. Destiny is about which social classes are best to be in during High School. The speaker is the principal, and the vanguard and factions are teachers/coaches. Titans are the jocks, Warlocks are the rich kids, and Hunters are the kids that do clubs and other extra-curriculars. Fallen are rednecks/white-trash/poor folks, Hive are goth/emo, Cabal is anyone from an enlisted military background, and Vex are the weird psycho/unstable/fans-of-anything the "good guys" don't like.
