Well sadly he is kinda essential to certain actions

Such as giving Palpatine emergency powers to create a Grand Army of the Republic which was part of Palpatine's alter ego Sidious' plan to initiate The Clone Wars and destroy the Jedi and create the Galactic Empire.

Yup even more so in the clone wars tv show tho, but yea an even some of his accidents are key event triggers (like opening the booma transport to slow down the AATs advance on the gungan army)
