Destiny 101 General Information

This page will hold information that, while very important, is not large enough to warrant it's own page. This page may have more sections added to it as needed. Color Blind Settings: Are you affected by some form of color blindness? Fear not Guardian, Bungie has implemented color blind filters that can be activated from the settings menu in-game. This includes settings for Deuteranopia, Protanopia, and Tritanopia. Buy the DLCs: If you like Destiny and are interested in sticking with it then I highly recommend that you make sure to acquire every DLC that comes out. The main part of the Destiny experience is having new challenges and ways to advance with each DLC that releases. If you're not getting every DLC you're missing out on the full Destiny experience, this game is something of an investment. If you don't like the sound of that then you may not like Destiny, and that's fine, no judgement here. I just wanted to let you know up front that Destiny was made with the expectation that players will be buying DLC. The "Destiny Week": Tuesday is reset day for Destiny. This means that all weekly activities change/reset on Tuesday, making Monday your last chance to complete them for any given week. So, to be clear, as far as Destiny is concerned the week starts on Tuesday and ends on Monday. Special Controls: Destiny has a few unique ways you can play, let talk about them. - Ghost: To bring up your Ghost simply press the left menu button. From the Ghost menu you can... + Return to Orbit: Hold the switch weapons button. + Abandon a Patrol Mission: Hold the switch weapons button while you have a patrol mission active. + Summon your Sparrow: Hold the reload button. + View details on your current objective: Left side of the screen. - Jump Ability: To use your jump ability simply press the jump button while you are in mid-air. Specifics on the different jump abilities will be found in the Class section. - Sliding: Press the crouch button while sprinting to slide into a crouched position. The slide can be a good way to quickly cover a short distance or get into cover. - Cover: Surprise! Destiny has a secret cover system. How does that work in a FPS you ask? Well it's very situational. You need to be crouched behind a piece of geometry that is just tall enough to completely cover you when crouched. While pointed at the box, rock, whatever it is, ADS and you should automatically pop out of cover. Letting go of your zoom button brings you back into cover. - Emotes: Yay emotes! You can use the D-pad to perform an emote. + Wave: Up. + Point: Right. + Dance: Left. + Sit: Down. Item Rarity: All items in Destiny follow a system of rarity, although to say "rarity" is somewhat misleading as, after a certain point in your Destiny experience, you'll probably see more Rare items than Common. If you've played Borderlands or other games like it you're probably already be familiar with this system. In order from lowest level to highest: White - Common Green - Uncommon Blue - Rare Purple - Legendary Gold - Exotic Exotic rarity weapons and armor have unique exotic perks that give them special abilities. Players can only have 1 exotic weapon and 1 exotic armor equipped at one time. Leveling: As a new player leveling up in Destiny is simple. Kill things, complete quests, gain experience, easy right? That is until you reach level 20. Once your character reaches level 20 gaining experience no longer goes towards your level. You must increase a new stat called Light. How does one increase their light stat? By equipping armor with light infused in it. All legendary and exotic armor have light, some rare armors do as well. To reach the highest level in Destiny you must have a full set of armor with the maximum possible light stat. This can be 4 legendary pieces or 3 legendary and 1 exotic. Note: Not all legendary armors will have the highest light stat possible. Equipping armor with light does not permanently increase your light, removing the armor will remove the light. This means every player above level 20 can remove their armor and drop back down to level 20. Precision Damage: We don't say "headshots" in Destiny we say "precision hits" instead. This is primarily because many enemies (mostly Vex units) have critical hit spots that are not on their heads. You'll know you've dealt precision damage to an enemy when the numbers representing damage are yellow instead of white. Majors: Enemies with Yellow health bars are called Majors. Some bounties will require you to kill major level enemies. Heroic: Heroic is an activity modifier. Some bounties will require you to set a story mission to heroic level. Simply raise the level to any setting higher than the standard to apply the heroic modifier. Elemental Damage: You may have noticed that some special and heavy weapons have their attack stat in a different color rather then the usual white. This means that the gun deals an elemental damage. There are 3 elements of damage in Destiny: Solar (orange), Arc (blue), and Void (purple). Elements come into play primarily in regard to enemy shields. Damaging an enemy shield with a matching element type will deal significant extra damage to the shield. Example: If I'm fighting a Fallen Captain (which has a visibly blue arc shield) with an arc weapon it's shield will drop much faster than it would with any other type of weapon. Weapons aren't the only things that can deal elemental damage, all sub-class abilities deal elemental damage relative to the specific sub-class in question. The element of a given subclass can be discerned by the color of the sub-class box in your menu screen. Orbs of Light: When you kill enemies with your super there is a chance of generating orbs of light. The more enemies you kill, and/or if you kill major level enemies the more orbs you will generate. You cannot see the orbs that you have generated but other allied players can. Your teammates can pick up orbs you've made to help charge their super and the opposite is true, you can pick up your teammates orbs to charge your super. Mobile Vault: You can access items in your Vault from anywhere in the game! How you ask? By using the Mobile Vault. If you have the Destiny app on your phone you can move items to and from the vault by accessing the Legend section. Just click the 3 dots on the side of an item card to access a window with the "move item" option. To change which character your legend is looking at simply open the side menu and press the down-arrow next to your character's level. All of this can also be done from Bungie.net. WARNING: DO NOT MOVE ITEMS WHILE YOU ARE IN TRANSIT! Imagine trying to hit a bird that's flying over open water with a rock, that's what it's like for the system that has to try and send you your item while you're in a loading screen. The system doesn't know where you are in the game and the item being sent might get lost in the digital space between spaces. Locking Items: Afraid that you'll accidentally dismantle your favorite gun? Lock it! You can lock any non-consumable item in your inventory by navigating to the item and pressing the right stick button. Each item has a little pad-lock icon towards the top of it's item card that signifies whether or not the item is locked. Personally? Any time I get an item that I don't immediately dismantle, I lock it. Destiny 101 Full List https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/139731825
