Sniper Rifles
Ok, Bungie, people have been complaining about being one shot final rounded to the body. Why is it that you're so quick to nerf whatever people whine about yet you're so slow to buff things nobody uses, or address underlying gun design issues? Oh, and on the topic of things people have been very vocal about, what about weasel, hmm?
I have 3 Efrideet's Spears (solar surplus, field scout, firefly; arc surplus, armor piercing, final round; void performance bonus, armor piercing, final round). They are my beautiful death godesses. You're about to ruin Icebreaker and Black Hammer, don't you dare touch my spear. Seeing as how Final Round has been retired as of 3rd gen snipers (which, by the way, have shamefully terrible perks), the whole final round body shot issue is going to become less of a problem as time goes on because we lucky few will become fewer and further between. But you can be damned sure we'll be holding onto ours with a death grip. Now, I only have final round spears, but based off impact alone I'm guessing you could also one shot final round body shot someone with an LDR, Longbow Synthesis, or Supremacy... if you actually managed to get your hands on one. Here's the thing about my spears: a regular body shot brings a full health titan to about 5% of their red bar. If a teammate so much as sneezes on you and I hit you, you're dead. So next time you think you just got final rounded and are about to bitch about it make sure you were actually at full health. I do something like 490 damage on a regular headshot. On a final round, I'll crack your skull at 605 and punch the skull behind you for 295. Every time I pull that shot off it's like Christmas. It just warms my heart. I don't speak for everyone, but I always go for the headshot. In my own experience, most people aren't running spear, and even when I do get killed by a spear, it's usually a headshot.
Now, here's the thing about sniper rifles... even today we have these wonderful marvels of human ingenuity called anti-material rifles. They typically fire .50 BMG, and are designed to punch through armored vehicles. If you were to hit an armored human being in the chest with one, you would probably kill him and the five guys behind him. Even a .308 will kill someone with a body shot. Something tells me that no matter how much technology and space magic humanity develops, we'll always have really freaking powerful guns designed for the sole purpose of eating our really freaking strong armor for breakfast. Efrideet's Spear? That's Destiny's Barrett .50 cal. The gun is heavy, has god awful stability, and if you want to take advantage of the final round, you have to have the skill to deal with a 3 round mag when every one can jump and blink and run around like crazy. So do I think final round should be nerfed? Hell no, high impact snipers are a 1-shot, 1-kill in basically every game except Halo because sniper rifles are 1-shot, 1-kill weapons in real life. But it doesn't matter what I think, and it doesn't matter that sniping in Destiny is made rather difficult because of how mobile players are and how small most engagement ranges are, the whiners have spoken.
As long as you don't screw up final round so it doesn't proc on headshots (because it's not like you've ever accidentally broken a perk before), I'm fine with final round being restricted to criticals, although I think this should be a pvp only nerf, as this is a non-issue in pve. As long my death goddess can still reap two souls with one bullet on a double headshot, you have my permission to nerf final round. It'll weed out the cheap from the skilled.
Goals:
* Sniper Rifles are optimal at long range, and difficult to use for medium to short range combat – you have succeeded. Do you know how hard it is to snipe some cheap jerk who's trying to shotgun slide you or an arcblade? (It's also really, really, really satisfying)
* Sniper Rifles reward thumb skill with high damage against precision targets – obviously, but they also should hit hard on a body shot.
* The Final round perk on Sniper Rifles should still require precision shots – do you know how small a guardian is, how fast they move, and how limited your field of view is when you zoom in? This isn't Halo, it's not like we can body snapshot people. But whatever, you've made up your mind.
Changes:
* Final Round on Sniper Rifles buffs precision damage only, not base damage. This change only affects this perk when combined with Sniper Rifles – read my virtual lips: don't screw up Final Round. It better still activate on precision hits. Oh, and it'd be nice if it actually only affected sniper rifles, too.
