Dev Update - 21 Jul 15

Hi everyone, It's been about two months since I last updated Destiny Stats and communicated the progress on it's development. I sincerely apologise for that. The last couple of months have been fairly busy for me (university work, exams etc.) and progress has definitely slowed down. That being said, I want to reassure you all that I haven't abandoned the app and progress is being made. That progress might not be in the way you've expected though... Exactly one year ago, I hit File -> New Project in Visual Studio and started what would eventually become Destiny Stats. It was 21/07/14, the maintenance day during the Destiny Beta. Temporarily torn away from my trusty Level 8 Hunter, I delved into Bungie.net's inner workings to see if I could put together a companion solution for those of us who don't use Android or iOS. In about three weeks, I built the first version of Destiny Stats. It's important to focus on that date. This was months before the game had even released. The First Look Alpha had been and gone, but we still didn't really understand what Destiny was, and what it would become. There was almost no information about the endgame and what happens after you finish the Story campaign. That means that when I designed Destiny Stats, it was fundamentally architected around a series of assumptions of what I thought the game would be. And that shows. The first few versions didn't even show your Light level, simply because we didn't even know how that mechanic worked until the game released. Destiny Stats was designed to display detailed stats about a single Guardian. It wasn't designed to show daily and weekly missions, Grimoire or even 3D models (though at that time I thought this would be fairly easy to implement - I was wrong). It wasn't designed to support Vault transfer. But as our understanding of Destiny evolved, so did the wants and needs of players. Unfortunately, Destiny Stats hasn't been able to keep up with those demands. I know you want 3D models. I know you want Grimoire cards. I know you want Vault transfer. But the framework which this app was built upon wasn't designed for these features. That's why I'm rebuilding this app from the ground up. It's a huge undertaking, but I'm convinced this is the best thing to do. With Windows 10, the app platform is entering a new generation and in order to capitalize on the benefits of the new platform, the new app will require Windows 10. That means it'll run on Windows 10 desktops and tablets as well as phones. There's still a lot of work to go, but I'm happy with the progress that's being made. I want Windows to have a viable alternative to the official Bungie apps and with these changes, I think I can finally deliver on that. I can't wait to share more in the coming weeks, both here and on Twitter. I hope it'll be worth the wait. Thanks, Vivek

 • Totally pumped to know there will be a Destiny app for windows 10 (shortly after release??). Sad the current one is getting left behind. Be nice to at least add in missing arena history and weekly PoE challenges in missions page...please? Although, no offense, I'm hoping bungie takes advantage of the new win10 android import capabilities to just run the official app. Looking forward to yours in the meantime!
