I'm not American, but any rational person around the globe has got to agree with President Obama here that the U.S's gun laws are absurdly lenient for being among one of the world's most developed nations. Everyone, whether they identify as conservative, libertarian or liberal have got to understand that gun control is essential for any country as large and influential as the U.S and some changes need to be made soon to prevent further tragedies. Bump if you agree!
UPDATE: People are very angry, thinking I believe in getting rid of guns. I don't. They're pretty useful for self defense, but they need to be regulated more to stop as many criminals from getting their hands on them.

Edited by Ralfufigus: 7/27/2015 10:16:56 PMWhat I think you other countries are failing to realize, is that for better or worse, American society is incredibly stubborn. If you try to take something from us, we will fight you back with twice as much opposition. Look at Prohibition. Alcohol was made illegal to fight booze-related criminal activities. You know what happened? We only wanted it more, and were willing to create more crime in order to obtain it. In fact, an entire underground industry was created just to facilitate the desire that the American populous still had for alcohol. The crime rates spiked up so high, that the government had no choice but to make it legal once again. Same exact thing happened with good ol' cannabis. It was made illegal, people still wanted it, crime rates go up, and it's starting to become legal again. They say history repeats itself for a reason, because if guns are ever made illegal in the U.S., you bet your foreign ass that a similar pattern will emerge. You see, you're not simply asking people to give up a material good in exchange for morality and ethics; you're asking people to give up a way of life. Alcohol, marijuana, and guns will never disappear, no matter how illegal they are, because making things illegal doesn't really solve problems. I'll end my little rant with a friendly reminder: always remember that when your life is seconds from ending, the cops are minutes away. :)

In response to your update, yes, people do kill others with legally obtained weapons. However, if it were more difficult to obtain or carry one, that wouldn't stop them in my opinion. If you're that screwed up in the noggin to want to kill another human deliberately in a non self-defense situation, you will not be deterred. And if they don't qualify for a legal firearm, they will just get one illegally.

If you take our legally possessed guns, how out we supposed to defend ourselves from the people who illegally possess them?

Edited by FlyiingSquirrel-: 7/29/2015 1:25:12 AMListen, I'm no expert on guns, but if you wanted to FREAKING MURDER SOMEONE GUN CONTROL AINT GON DO ANYTHING. I'm just tired of people preaching for gun laws. Remember the good old twenties when we tried something similar to this? It was called prohibition, and it made drinking alcohol illegal. And you know what happened? People still drank booze. In fact, the mafias even made money off of it. So if we tried to ban guns, what would happen? People who wanted to kill someone would still do it, and the black market gun dealers would make much, much more money. All it does is effectively prevent the citizens from defending themselves. Sorry if there are other comments exactly like this, I didn't have a chance to read all of them.

>"I'm not American" >tries to tell people how to do American gun laws >OP is both fgt and idiot

"Malo periculosam, libertatem quam quietam servitutem" - Thomas Jefferson With translates to "I prefer the tumult of liberty to the quiet of servitude." or "I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery" long story short I would rather have more freedoms than have less even if that means I'm not as safe.

Because Americans pick and choose what they want , even if it makes no sense. Read the 2nd amendment and I'm pretty sure it doesn't say you have the right to bare 10 automatic rifles with 100 rounds to hunt. Learn what a militia is and we start from there. However people wanna protect themselves from people with guns , so they buy a gun. But the guy they hope to protect themselves from gets the same benefit as you so wouldn't you wanna make it harder for him and let the police protect you? Oh wait the police are to busy shooting their guns to protect themselves from people who have guns. Logic

"Why are foreigners telling America how to govern themselves? Stay out of our politics and worry about yourselves." Honestly, I'd much rather hear the opinions of a superiorly governed country's people than those of a bunch of senseless Americans who have no clue on what is going on in this country. There is a clear problem with guns and gun laws, and nothing is changing, just because many people are paranoid that someone is going to shoot them. It's perfectly fine to have a weapon for house defense, but to carry one around town is another story. So before you go around yelling at non-Americans to leave you alone so that the country can destroy itself, compare the state of their government to your own.(depending on their country, of course)
the solution to gun violence isn't more guns
Edited by Snappy: 7/28/2015 8:28:10 AMIf conservatives say liberals are scared of their ideas being challenged, but then they post something along the lines of "you're not American, don't care to read." in here Does this make them liberals?

Bro, smuggle me an SVT-40 and we'll talk. We've got an import ban on that sweet 7.62x54mm battle rifle, but y'all don't. You can get 'em cheap too.
-
OK when you have a near lawless country bordering your home with thousands of people, some of which are professional criminals and mafia, residing in your hometown; then you can have an opinion. Until the border is secured and the cartels can stop smuggling UNREGULATED weapons into my homeland then I'll gladly consent to more gun control. Until then....you can take my gun when you shoot me dead.

Blame Obama.

Only bad criminals buy guns legally

Keep the crazies from getting guns. Sure, fine, whatever. But it should never limit the general public from exercising their right to bear arms. I'm looking at you Kalifornia...
-
Honestly though we should get rid of guns altogether. All we do is kill each other. That is why we have a gov. They will protect us. They would never do anything that is bad to us.
I'm not American,
Just stop there and delete your thread.

Edited by SchrodingersK@t: 7/26/2015 4:32:08 PMI think it's irrefutable that people who aren't from America need to stop telling us how to run our country.

Why do you care about us in the US if you don't live here and wouldn't be affected by any laws?

Edited by Man Ray: 7/27/2015 6:50:54 PMI'm assuming you're focusing on school shootings since those make the news more often, so here's a list showing that some of the worst school shootings in history happen in countries other than the U.S. link
