If I am unable to upgrade my year 1 weapons and armour to the new max level, then I'm gone. I have not pre-ordered TTK because of this one issue.
I don't care if no RPG does what I require Destiny to do. Destiny is the first, and only, of its kind. It's a collecting game, similar to Pokemon. It's an FPS, very similar to Halo. Some poeple throw other genres in there to, feel free, those are the two that matter to me.
So, in order for TTK to be a success in my book, I must be able to upgrade all year one weapons and armour to max level. I also need increased vault space (seperate the Reef and Tower vaults, voila! Double the vault space!) to collect 'em all. When Destiny 2 comes out, my requirement will not change, I will expect the same things that I have required here. I didn't create this monster, Bungie did. Now they must live with it.
If they can't figure out what type of game they have (an FPS collecting game) by the time they release TTK, I will be done with Bungievision.

I want the option, yes. Why would I want to find and upgrade a re-skinned version of the same gun I already have? I will do that, but I also want my old gun. Now, Bungie could find a natural feeling way to make me feel like I don't want my old guns anymore. Add an extra, useful, perk for instance. (Shank Burn, SMH.) If they force me, I'm gone, that simple.

I think I'm over the whole bring the old weapons in and have them ascend to 425. If TTK brings new weapons that can ascend to the level and not the original ones, so be it. I'll keep some of them for PvE and nuke the rest. I'm just pissed they, Bungie, aren't telling us anything. We now know weapon tuning 2.0 will happen right before TTK launches in September, but they aren't telling us if they will ascend to 425. Stupid on Bungie's part, why the F not!!!!! Who will it hurt if they tell us??? DeeJ and Cosmo really need to do a better job of keeping us informed and quit the bullshit cryptic messages they always send out.

They said they want us to use the new weapons, or something like that. It sounded ominous for collectors like me.
