Oh so you never had to use the Crota gear to hit 32?
Oh you didn't have to use HoW gear to hit 34 and start getting Etheric light in order to go back to your old gear?
You HAD to set aside your old gear in order to move forward to get the items required to upgrade your old gear in HoW and in TDB you had no choice but to use the new gear.
So yes you WERE forced to move on from the old gear in order to progress in the game you imbecile.
