Why buy any new game then? All games are cheap a year after release. Destiny is an MMO-Lite style game. The year one content is not really relevant in September so the price is just right.
And if your only factor for a game is how long the story lasts, you probably don't play many games.

My main factors are if the story is good and if the game play itself is fun and exciting. Which is why I like battlefield 4 each match can be significantly different from the last with destiny in a strike I know where the enemies will spawn so my gun is preemptively pointed at that doorway or in crucible I know I will be shot by alot of thorns and shotguns.
