Actually the hive ritual was to stop them from drainage of the Traveler's light. Never mentions it regaining after we stop them.
If that's true the Traveler can't be completely dead, he must be in some type of slumber, or maybe a comatose state.

No it doesn't say that he starts to regain his light. But your ghost does say that the traveler can now begin to regain light once the mission is complete.

Hahaha. His whole outfit is pretty badass. The only other stuff in the whole game besides the footprint in the opening cinematic to have the destiny logo is his shit lol.
