If people exclude me from a fireteam because I'm not using my ghorn, then they lost a good player.
I never use my ghorn, even during solar burn.
Why when I can use vex mythoclast or voc?
My reasoning is because the boss' aren't difficult to fight, it's the enemies that spawn with it that make it difficult.
Hence a strong primary or secondary is better overall, for me. Plus an extended mag high impact lmg is quite the effective weapon.
If it takes an extra minute to kill the boss, so be it.

If you use VoC you can still use your Gjally... A strong primary isn't even necessary on solar burn, as long as you have a solar weapon. The most important is that you have a good team!

Depending on the mission I might not even use any exotics on a solar burn since I am more comfortable with some of the legendary weapons I have. And yes your right, the most important thing is you have a good team and using the weapons that are boosted from modifiers. If you have that you will finish any mission without ghorns, even on solar burn, with relatively little problem. Also I generally switch between vex and voc on a solar burn depending on what's best for the fight ahead.
