Recently an acquaintance and myself had a debate. We were playing Destiny, and I explained that even though it's a pretty bad game (lack of content, no story, really repetitive), I found it fun with friends. He thinks that if you're having fun, the game must be good.
This post is not about #Destiny. It is a question if you can have fun in a game and think it's not a good game.
Your opinions?

Destiny is probably the best example of fun but awful.
-
It's about the experience, hence why I stuck to games like Destiny and WoW. If I'm having genuine fun, despite the grind and repetitiveness, the game is a good game in my book.
-
Most of the funny/stupid games are bad
-
Glitch Simulator 2004 a shit, but it's still fun to play, especially with friends, and with the ridiculous skulls it has.
-
Yes. Destiny and Reach are prime examples.

Edited by Jing: 8/17/2015 1:06:25 PMLol Destiny and Cod aren't good games but I still have fun Playing them
-
Skate 3 is a good example of a game like that.

Can cars fly without steel beams?
-
Star fox assault was considered pretty bad I think, but I loved multiplayer with my sister.
-
Yes. Halo 4 is a terrible game, but I have had a lot of fun playing split screen on goofy forge-made mini games.
-
If a game is not fun then its bad.. If a game is fun its good.. Its really just personal preference.
-
Yes, like Destiny
-
Uh yeah, Destiny.
-
Deadly Premonition
-
Yes, examples being Halo 4 and Destiny.

But imagine if here was any other multiplayer out other than destiny that was decent and your friends had.. Yiu would be playing that instead. Destiny is staying relevant right meow because there are no other particularly good multiplayer games out if any so people don't have a choice including myself lol. I will be investing my 40$ into Gears before I do TTK though

Think Goat Simulator or any of the jump scare horror games plaguing the PC market. They can be fun even if they aren't good.
-
Thats pretty much Destiny in a nut shell. The shooting mechanics and art style and sound are solid enough to keep people invested into the game even with all the games faults apparent.

Believe it or not it is strange but, there has been some notoriously bad games that were actually pretty fun.. X-com : bureau got a lot of negitive ratings. It wasn't the traditional x com that everybody loved. I was originally going to avoid it because I'd rather play the traditional X com.. As the price dropped to bargain bin, I figured what the heck.. It tryed it out anyways. All of its game mechanics was a direct clone of Mass Effect. And since I did really enjoy Mass effect. I found the game to be most enjoyable.. It did have a lot of X com concepts in it.. So for me it ended up turning out to be really good...

I think this is all about perspective. If I don't think a game is good I usually stop playing and don't go back to it. However someone else might love it and beat it 20 times. Then the reverse scenario can happen. So I answered no because if a game fits my definition of not good then no it is not fun.

Hence destiny

Crackdown 2.

Edited by Invidia: 8/12/2015 6:40:07 AM"Fun" and "good" are subjective when describing something, however they are also synonymous when speaking about gaming. The game does not overall have to be "good", but must exhibit some form of a "good" aspect which keeps you entertained and wanting to continue playing. Slot machines, while they are probably the most boring of games on the planet, offer a chance at a reward ("good" aspect) and that is enough to keep people playing. So if I had to answer, I'd say yes and no, it's complicated sometimes.
if you say slot machines provide monetary rewards, you would be correct, however the same concept applies to penny slots
Idk depends. Some games are bad, then you play with friends and it's hysterical. Some games are just funny if you play them right. Then factor in opinions and skill. Idk!!! To many variables!!!
