They are not impressive because you play as a guardian
Master chief is plays at impossible difficulty because he can't fight them.

He fought promethians Knights, which are in their simplest form a beefed up version of the vex with swords, an the ability to create new units and revive their dead, and transform whoever they kill into new promethians knights.
