You can actually survive huge falls in halo, much farther than destiny. There are 2 tricks to this. First is as long as you don't land on a flat surface. The second one is much better but requires skill. It's not easy to time but if you crouch at the exact right time the impact actually gets transferred to your shield, and it takes little to no damage.
