That one's on Bungie more than the players for poorly balancing out the weapons.
If they made more weapons as useful as Fatebringer/VoC, there'd be a wider variety. Instead, it seems we get just a small number of competitively viable weapons while the rest aren't as popular.
It'll be the same beast in TTK, I wager. People will be dazzled by the shiny new weapons for a few minutes before realizing that only 5 or 6 out of the whole bunch are worthwhile in the hardest endgame content.
