You guys are missing the point. Expansion should be addition! Not making old stuff worthless. Plus, you don't have to use the old weapons if you don't want. Let's say you finally get the fatebringer one week before taking king drops. Taken king has another awesome hand cannon with different perks and clearly better than the fatebringer. People will still try to get the new hand cannon. They won't be forced to throw out old that they worked hard to get. Imagine trying to get one thing to drop for 1 year and you finally get it to drop and only get to enjoy it for 1 week? I'm excited to search for new things. But I also like my old things such as shadow price! In 10 years if I'm still playing, I might be one of few people rocking the shadow price. This adds to the legend that I've built since vanilla destiny. I can't rebuild a "legend" every year knowing that it will be all be for naught when yearly reset hits.
