It should. If you look at your reputations on destinytracker.com it also has "prestige" which is your exp levels. I don't think my warlock and Hunter are that high but my titan is like 90...

My Titan is at 140, warlock at 41, Hunter at 70

I figured it out when I was checking my buddies heckling him while he played at my house, and I refreshed the page just after he got a random mote like you do for leveling, and it went up.
