Wrong telling someone you are going to -blam!- them is not protected speech nor is it acceptable speech. Even in tolerable circumstances i.e. two guys are playing a game and one says to the other "you are so gonna get -blam!-" it is still technically a threat and any form of threat is capable of being taken seriously by the receiving party. However from what I understand most of these statements made were not done in such an obviously joking or playful way but in a way that was to be taken as a serious threat to their health. Furthermore just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. I can make fun of my friends for having a dead father but should I? In a dead serious way look them in the eye and insult them and their dead father? No, I shouldn't if you disagree bad troll is bad 0/8 you need to grow up and GTFO.

LOL You can say anything you want at anytime, doesn't mean there aren't going to be consequences but you're free to say what you want whenever you want. Edit: also if this is harassment then file a lawsuit or some shit lets see how the police/state will take to you claiming to be harassed over a video game lmao

  • Police? No. But bungie/Activision and PSN/MS reserve the right to ban you as they see fit.

  • I never said you couldn't I said shouldn't. Also with the increased attention given to cyber bullying I would not be surprised if there was a legal precedent set for cyber harassment cases. As technology evolves to do the laws and crimes accompanied with it.

  • You don't call the police, you call a lawyer and file a lawsuit. Threats of -blam!- and physical harm would be taken very seriously, and the criminals could be tracked by their IP.

  • Oh please. It's a video game and you are going to file a lawsuit because someone called you names is just down right pathetic and a waste of a lawyers time.

  • If someone says they are going to do bad things to you you and they say it seriously on the internet in any other medium, it is considered cyberbullying at best and harrasment if its bad enough. Threats of violence are taken even more seriously. You need to see past the medium of the game and realize that a threat anywhere is still a threat. You wouldn't take this kind of abuse in person, and someone online who is dedicated to getting your IP address might ad well be, because they can find you.

  • That's not being soft, that's naming the crime. I'm saying that that's how they take offenses much less worse than murder and r@pe threats.

  • It's not the police who make the call. It's the courts, and they take this very seriously. Also, I know police officers who take this kind of thing very seriously. Because guess what, they're human too. Hollywood makes them look like they don't care or won't listen, but the misunderstanding or unbelieving person us a Hollywood trope, not a real life one.

  • Laugh all you want, but someone went out of their way to threaten someone they don't even know over their gender. That is an issue.

  • Doesn't make it right. I'd like to just say nice b8, but something has to be said about how appealing that statement was. Also, reported.

From my understanding there weren't any death threats at all, are you sure you are informed of this situation before you decided to give your input? And honestly death threats on over a video, yes he would find funny. If you are weak blooded enough to let a threat over a video game shake you, you better stick to single player RPGs

  • It's not that it shakes me, its that if the DoD are to be believed, they received these privately. If they have this evidence, they are well within their rights to deal with this. Trying to clear this community of criminals is not being shaken, its being proactive. I don't care what they say to me, but if someone is threatened, I know they have the right to react in a legal manner.
