You can balance specific weapons without leaving [i]entire eras[/i] of gear behind. And they're already balancing things pretty seriously in 2.0, so it would be pretty strange if they go through all the trouble of nerfing gear that is already going to be left behind... So I'm still hopefull that our gear will have a way to stay current, at some point.
