You know what happens if year one weapons aren't made obsolete? Year two weapons are obsolete.

  • Not necessarily. Even if one takes that statement at face value for a literal truth a balance problem can always be solved by tweaking, and for a developer with a long track record at building First Person Shooters it shouldn't be that difficult not only to work those problems out but to build a decent rule set to inform what else is added onto the sandbox (supplementing common sense.) The tricky part is just balancing the major weapon types against each other but once that's done the variations of Assault Rifle, Sniper, Shogtun, ect. can be pretty easily added to the game (see. why its not a problem for games like Counterstrike or Rainbow Six to throw in a dozen variants of the same weapon class.) Its more or less just a matter of initiative. Bungie could be building up a large, amazing sandbox but they're opting instead for a "type 2" structure of weapon design (that's one to all my Magic the Gathering homies out there.) Maybe they've got similar reasons for fearing big-ness, but in a game that was originally sold on the feeling of being 12 years old again and playing in an epicly fun world that fear seems to be entirely misplaced.

  • This wouldn't have been the case if Bungie had put in enough play testing hours themselves to see that that Year 1 weapons probably will never have anything released better than what they were, otherwise it would borderline break the game. This is a part of the reason why a lot of us think this has been a year of Beta testing. Had they done enough testing themselves in the FIRST place, they would've known these guns should've been saved for a later date. They've put themselves in a shitty spot because of their own carelessness and ignorance.

  • I might as well have the choice

  • That's nothing more than a myth. We already know that isn't the case.

  • Make year two guns just as good and give people a choice of what they want to use. It's pretty simple.

  • It's not simple. I'll give you as much time as you want, try to create a hand cannon as useful in PvE as Fatebringer. They made weapons so good that they can't really get better without making the old ones obsolete.

  • It is SO EASY to make new weapons that people would want to get and add to their personal armories. FOR EXAMPLE! Name: The Dawn Breaker Quality: Legendary Weapon Class: Hand Cannon Ammo Type: SOLAR Damage Rate of Fire: 22 Impact: 81 Range: 40 Stability: 30 Reload: 30 Mag Size: 10 Special Perk: "Dawn Breaker"- Shots set enemies on fire, similar to Warlock Sunsinger Scorch Melee Ability. There, how hard was that?

  • Sounds exotic

  • Plenty of Exotics aren't all that Exotic. Its illustrating the point, though.

I would still use fatebringer because it hurts enemies around the target when hit with precision damage. the explosion also causes arc damage, which is awesome for arc burn activities. I also have a choice between field scout and explosive rounds, not to mention outlaw, which would also make me choose fatebringer over that hand canon for the speed of the reload. Only way I would use something different is if the other weapon was more powerful, but that would only lead to power creep which can only hurt the game more. Plus that would be a weapon that causes damage over time, it would hit harder and be more stable than Thorn. and that would make the crucible even more annoying, also limiting even more the players' choices continuing the rule of the hand cannon in the crucible.

  • That Explosive Rounds, a possible 1 of 3 perks, bare in mind. I didn't include any of those but yeah, its as easy as just adding that as a possible option along with Field Scout and High Caliber Rounds to Dawn Breaker. And naw, we just gotta tweak the damage value of the DoT for both so that Thorn maintains its Exotic status by comparison.

  • That is exactly the point, it is not just come out and hey this weapon is more powerful so there. there is a lot that comes into it that can break other parts of the game. Part of what makes this game re-playable is the expectation of the loot, no better loot than what you have, then why keep going in, which is why I stopped playing PoE after the 3rd week. And don't get me wrong I respect the opinion of those who want to keep the weapons from year one, but I personally want to go into that - looking for loot and finding new guns that feel good and getting the perfect load out - mode, which honestly is not going to happen if I can just keep going with the guns I already have because they are awesome.

Yeah, they could literally just add an additional perk tree to a hand cannon similar to FB with good perks. Or one with a higher RoF or Impact. Or one similar to Murmur where you can change the weapons burns. Bungie just lacks the creativity to make things better. Id be more than happy to use new stuff if it was actually better than what I current have. I'm not happy to have it forced on me where I couldn't use my Timepiece because it does 365 when max damage is 500. If they made a weapon better than Timepiece but made timepiece 500 damage, I'd choose the new better weapon. Or maybe I'd feel nostalgic and use the Timepiece even if I had something better from time to time. Taking away that choice aspect also takes away from my enjoyment of the game seeing as it is ment to be an RPG where I try put myself in my characters shoes (or boots) and do what I would want to do if I was a futuristic space magician.

  • I just made a new Legendary Hand Cannon that I'm sure everyone would love to go after that could easily compete with Fatebringer. lol

  • No it couldn't the firefly is better then that plus you don't go about how you would get that hand cannon or damage stats the vendors couldn't sell it cause it has a burn it would have to drop from a raid so where at in which part of the new raid from what enemy and on hard or normal?

  • Those are details that are figured out after the fact, and not actually relevant to the matter at hand. The topic was whether or not there could be a Legendary Hand Cannon that was equal to or greater than Fatebringer, to which I responded by creating one that isn't difficult at all to do. You are only limited by your own creativity.

  • Disagree..revealed a lot of new guns in TTK that sound promising already plus with new ways to upgrade and customize your weapons now I'd say year 2 weapons are gonna make it big
