Tl;dr.
Responding to your title, though:
It meant a good deal. I may be burnt out at the moment, but I'll return for TTK. My grind wasn't for nothing. I had fun and I got loot. You might as well not play any Destiny until 2024, when the last game comes out, because otherwise, your grind from 2014 - 2023 will have meant nothing, right?

^ yes, people don't seem to get that we are supposed to play the current game and get the best gear. Then newer and harder content is released that we then have to work for. If all VoG gear and weapons were able to compete with TTK stuff, then people would just play the lvl 30 vog instead of the lvl 40 TTK content for great gear.
