I guess I'll weigh in on an actual debate, thank you for presenting an actual meaningful and thought out post here. I'll start off with my opinion on this, just so you know where I stand on the issue. I believe that on this specific game, Destiny, which is nearing the release of expansion number 3, you should be able to upgrade existing weapons and armor to meet the statistics of their newer counterparts. I do not think it should be free, nor in any term hard or easy. I think it should be on par as challenging as getting the weapons that you wish to equal. Now, I have a proposition that sounds fair to my own ears. Hopefully yours as well, you lurking SOBs. Consider this; if you want to upgrade a weapon, let's say a raid weapon because so far they're debatably the best and most sought after, what better way then to use the weapon you wish to equal to make your weapon better? It's a very, very simple idea; Why not dismantle a raid armor or weapon, earn something much like today's Ascendent energy, and use it to fully upgrade whatever you wish? This could fix several problems at once; The challenge would be perfectly matched, it would be fair, and you can upgrade at your own pace and not have to grind much. With your first or second raid weapon earned you can trade that for say a fully maxed VoC or such, that's what I would likely do with mine. What do you think? Anything to add or simply averse to the idea in general?
Note; I've started seeing a lot of people sign their posts and such, I don't see why I shouldn't too. Though I'll only do it for my first long post in a thread I guess. Sounds pretty weird but I'll jump on the bandwagon until I see reason not to...
~Kitsune

 • I actually suggested this exact system in a bunch of forums prior to the announcement of Ascension in HoW. 1. It requires players to experience the new content directly and completely; gamers get the full DLC experience, Bungie still gets their money, and gamers ultimately get to play the game how they chose to. Everyone wins. 2. It keeps old content relevant. Again; gamers get the full experience on their own terms, are able to chase whatever gear they want, and Bungie still get a their money. Literally no downsides, haha.

 • Great minds think alike? Sounds oddly self serving...
