You do make some good points, but... You also need to consider the fact that it IS (I don't care if you agree or not) a MMO hybrid, and it WILL evolve like other MMO's. Yes, the mechanics of an FPS weapon are much different to "DPS sticks" (great term, btw) but the game is going to evolve, just like the world/economies. Also, I don't think that the developers could truly anticipate just how the gaming community would utilize (and in many cases exploit) the game mechanics, and they are taking actions to balance and diversify the game. I see almost no drawbacks to the upcoming changes, only improvements to a game I've already immensely enjoyed. I think everyone should be patient and see how it plays before getting to bent out of shape.
