Im almost positive that we will be able to upgrade any weapon to the max year 2 damage after the last expansion for year 2 releases.
Just save your guns and wait until the end of The Taken King.

That's great and all but save them where? There are 12 new exotic weapons, along with hundreds of new ones coming, + new raid weapons. Need more vault space.
