Quite simply they should add guns with perks that help with new content to force decisions, but not make old guns obsolete. With limited vault space we have choices.
If I'm around for all 10 years of destiny I'd love to have a collection of a few of my favourites from each year.... That's what I thought might make destiny exceptional giving a massive variety of weapons and armour over time!
I'm sure I'll find new guns that I like as much as my fatebringer and messenger but I'd still love to pull them out once in a while....
Although I'm not ready to quit I'm not quite as excited about the long term as I once was!

Same right here just from favorite guns alone from year 1 that's almost half of my vault space that's not including necessity guns like Fatebringer Gjallarhorn etc. I really would love to save the best guns from each year and expansion but at the current state right now they'll almost all be obsolete and nothing more than relics but I'm going to hold on to hope and just hope that eventually they'll do another ascending thing again
