How many people will I have to explain this to? THEY WONT BE OBSOLETE, JUST NOT AS POWERFULL.
English

IF THEY STOP GETTING UPGRADED, THEY BECOME OBSOLETE. If Vanilla weapons were still at 300, they'd be obsolete right now. By capping current gear, it essentially gives it an expiration date. Example: If I sealed up the gas tank in your car, so that you couldn't put any more gas in it, that car would be obsolete, because why bother using a car that's destined to run out of gas.

Please look at the conversation with Aname below for the Oxford definition of obsolete. What you are describing is broken. All your weapons will still kill things like they are right now, just .01 seconds slower.
-
Yeah, we get to use them during the old Raids and regular Crucible! Isn't that awesome guys? /sarcasm
-
I 100% assure you all the weapons you have on your character and in your vault will be usable in TTK. You will be able to kill things just the same.
-
Not if the damage cap goes up. I like the way that the weapons I have perform. I've gotten used to them, and I'd like to take them into end game content with a relevant damage model. I don't want to have to use a gun I hate just because I need to deal more damage to Oryx, or whoever the hell we'll be killing this time around.
-
Then they will kill things .05 seconds slower. I'm really tired of trying to convince people it isn't a big deal, so I'm just going to let them see in time that it isn't as big a deal as everyone is making it out to be.
-
Well, if you can show me the math for that, I'd be more than happy to admit that you're right, if you're right. If it is only a .05 second difference, or even a .5 second difference, I likely won't notice it. You are right in that I wouldn't notice or mind if the figure you've given is accurate, you just have to prove to me that it's accurate. Or at least point me in the direction of the relevant info.

You must not know what obsolete means
-
Direct quote from the Oxford Dictionary: Obsolete- Disused, discarded, antiqued. No one is going to stop using year one weapons. No one is going to scrap their Fatebringer or Felwinters/Judgments/Party Crashers/ Matadors. They will still be used by a large portion of the community, they just won't be at the damage cap.
