A quick thought on the relevance of year one guns: A weapon's impact rating determines how much damage each shot does, its attack rating determines how much of its maximum potential damage it deals to an enemy dependent on that enemy's defense rating. Given we don't know the defense ratings of enemies the general consensus is that the level a weapon is effective to is its attack rating/10 - i.e 30 for 300 attack weapons, 33 for 331 etc. Given that 300 attack weapons were effective against level 33 enemies we can assume that a weapon will still be useful up to two levels above its attack rating. So 365 attack weapons should be good for level 38/39 enemies provided our guardians' actual level is there. I'd take that to mean that those 365 attack weapons we have will still be useful for nearly everything except the raid and power advantaged crucible events. The real challenge for Bungie is to develop new weapons to make us want to leave the old ones behind, which they completely failed to do in HoW. Agreed we all have an attachment to favourite weapons, but I believe the new foundry system and amount of new weapons we're getting will actually develop a more loyalty based system to certain weapons/foundries etc. Note: All of this obviously has the potential to go out the window if Bungie make a fundamental change to a weapons effectiveness based on light level which we'll find out in due course, but I wouldn't be too hasty in crying "all my year one weapons are useless" just yet. Useless is a very strong term!

 • This is my main concern and is why I will not be buying TTK until I see entirely what it encompasses. Unless Bungie makes some drastic change to the new weapons and perks available, I will simply see that it will be another repeat failure of HoW type weaponry. I keep trying to tell people that I'm quite certain that the new guns will be significantly inferior to our old VoG ones taking into account Bungie's pathetic track record on implementing new guns (Necrochasm, PoE Skolas weapons anybody?). If these new guns were to be better than my Fatebringer and VoC, I'd have no problem putting them down and moving forward, however, we already know that Bungie has removed perks like field scout and hammer forged. These new weapons will be worse already straight out of the gate without those perk options. Then factor in their idiotic across the board nerfs to hand cannons, and it is going to make for an ugly experience. I can see the handwriting on the wall from here already and I don't care to be a part of that.

 • Even though I haven't been impressed at all with HoW weapons (Messenger/Hopscotch are decent PVP pulse rifles and that's about it), The fact that they're adding more weapons than currently exist in the game is promising. Combined with the whole foundry system, and the ability to improve weapons by sacrificing other weapons (whatever that means) looks like they've overhauled the whole weapon system. TDB and HoW weapons felt like a "quick lets slap a couple of unique weapons together" where as this seems like a more measured, well thought out approach. Proof still remains to be seen of course, but some of the crucible footage so far looks pretty promising. The idea of "building" a weapon up over time seems a lot more interesting than wasting mats chasing a perfect roll

 • You're not wrong, weapons obviously won't be useless immediately, just as Vanilla gear was still capable for TDB activities. However, I'm looking at the bigger picture; if Bungie is deciding that, from this point on, gear will never be intended to last longer than 2-3 months, then players will have to zero reason to care about their gear, anymore. I'm not trying to blow things out of proportion, I'm just taking a logical look at Bungie's plans for the future of Destiny. I love my gear, and I'd hate to think that all my experiences with future gear will be fleeting. DX

 • Of course. Obviously current weapons at 365 won't last past Taken King. It will be interesting to see whether or not the vault/CE remain relevant post TTK and if so, how they will achieve that
