They are doing something with the old weapons/armor. Supposedly you use them to upgrade the new weapons/gear. Idk it will be in the pod cast they do when deej returns.

That's not worth it to change the opinion, however. That's still them relegating the old stuff to the trash bin, just in another method of doing so.
