I do notice how a lot of the argument for and against this revolve around the "mmo" (and believe me I use that term loosely with Destiny lol) aspect of the game, so for the sake of this argument, forget the mmo point of view. Look at any game with weapon based combat that has dlc/expansions Fallout Dragon Age Mass Effect Soul Caliber Assassins Creed Borderlands Fable And just about any and every game with rpg elements. Dlcs and (especially) expansions come with newer more powerful gear, does anyone really bitch about this? Maybe but I never see it. Mostly people seek out those new items and hunt for the most powerful ones to use and stick with it, do they ever go back to using old ones.. hardly if at all. Keep in mind I'm not trying to attack you Op(or anyone else) this is just my general thought with a small list of games I've played to show my point. By all means everyone, feel free to debunk what I've put or support and add to the list. TL;DR It's not just mmo's that phase out weapons and gear, just about all weapon based (especially RPGs) with expansions and dlcs do it too

 • Yes, but Bungie doesn't do that in their expansions. If Six Dreg Pride was a better performing gun than Fatebringer would anyone be trying to ascend Fatebringer? The gear may be better on paper, but in actual practice we keep getting worse and worse guns.

 •
Yes, but Bungie doesn't do that in their expansions.
Bungie isn't even remotely a good example since this is their first attempt at this lol. Honestly I think their whole ascension thing was a mistake and they only did it to quiet part of the players. New weapons will never perform exactly the same as the ones we're use to because their simply just not the same, just something we'll have to get use to. Now as for it being better or worse... It's really just perks that cause that as base damage is increased so that makes it "better" but the perks are what give them that slight edge. But I don't think they really make that drastic of a change. That being said... I do partly agree with you. So, sadly, given bungvisions track record so far it's hard to give them the benefit of the doubt so to speak in hopes of weapons actually making up for what we have to give up. But we just have to wait and see if they can actually deliver :/

 • Well, we'll simply have to disagree on the subject of the Ascend mechanic. I thought it was the best addition to Destiny, yet. Additionally, I worry about the precedent this sets for the game going forward. Will all of our weapons be outclassed after a few months? In TDB, Bungie seemed to set that trend, and then reversed it in HoW. I can't get a bead on what they plan to do, and it's making me leery of sticking with this game, despite how much I like some of changes they're making. The sense of accomplishment in getting a weapon I really wanted will now be extinguished by the very real possibility that I'll get to enjoy it for a few months at most before it's outclasses in the next expansion.
