It's a pretty boring game without options..
You don't [i]have[/i] to use the same weapons, I would just appreciate retaining the ability to [i]choose to[/i] use the same weapons.
Edit: particularly when the newer weapon choices are so exaggeratedly inferior, and just not at all fun to use, at least as far as I am concerned (the exception being 2 of the 3 PoE exotics)

You still can choose to use them, you're just limiting yourself by not choosing the new weaponry.

To be frank, if we never had the ability to ascend gear in the first place, then I wouldn't be so bitter about this.. but the fact that they gave us this option, played it up like crazy, even.... only to immediately turn right around and take it away. That's just -blam!-ing irritating, and another example of poor customer-relations, not to mention foresight and planning.
