Dropping everyone that's currently at a high level back to lvl20 would mean we couldn't even run VoG or Crota, do Nightfalls, weekly strikes etc... so I think that's just not going to happen. Seriously, how annoyed would a lot of their customers be to have their level 34s equalised with other peoples lvl20s.
I'm sure our levels will stay as they are. There will be a big xp grind to get to 40 and then new light levels to build up based on weapons, armour and probably class items as well.

Just watched it and with the role of light vs our levels I think there is still room for us to not be level 34. Look at it this way, we have 2 levels one is our base level 20 the other is our light level 168 which in the current game replaces base level He says our level won't change, sure but since they separate the two in ttk it would not be wrong if we went in at level 20 because our base level would be unchanged. Our light level would also stay the same Since they are upgraded differently we could still have 20 levels to gain even though we are effectively doing the same damage and have the same defense we have now due to how light levels work So for example VoG hard, we CAN run that at base level 20 because that will no longer dictate how much damage we deal and take. VoG hard won't be a base level 30 raid anymore but instead a LIGHT level 120 raid that we run at base level 20 and light level 120 So what I'm saying is we COULD still have 20 base levels to go while maintaining our same damage output and defensive ratings Essentially we won't notice a change except in our base level number but since activities will be off of a suggested light level we can still do everything we have but would still have from levels 20-40 to level up

Thanks. So we can upgrade player level to 40 through xp but there seems little info on why there's any point as it's light level that determines entry to activities, defence and attack stats.
-
No it doesn't. You would still be wearing your level 34 gear. Even if your player level is 20, your attack and defense are the same as before.
-
Edited by Jet Set Willy: 8/7/2015 3:44:10 PMBut your level is 20. VoG requires level 26 so you can't play it. Light won"t give levels but will provide 'power'.
-
Light level is not tied to player level. Activities will have light level suggestions which you will already have on release.
-
OK, think I'm getting it. For example VoG may have a requirement stated of lvl20 plus light lvl xx ?
-
He said that activities will have a recommended Light Level. I'm guessing the levels will stay the same, it's just now that's light level not player level. Player level doesn't seem to matter much at all.

Edited by Jet Set Willy: 8/7/2015 3:59:41 PMSounds like they're splitting them out to give us 2 things to grind rather than one.
-
Not really. It's just a more traditional leveling system now. You get experience to level up and gear power level is determined by how much light it has. If you ignore the light Stat it's really just how much attack/defense the gear has. No grinding required for that
-
Yeh, but if it's gear level that determines defence & attack rating as well as entry to activities where's the reason to bother about player level ? ps. I have not played an MMO ever (and this sounds like it may be that type of system) so excuse my ignorance.
-
Player level happens naturally as you gain experience just like any regular RPG. Higher level gear is required to be successful at end game content just like it's always been.
-
Right, like Diablo ? I played that and rarely gave a thought to my level, just the gear I had.
