The issue with Qodron

The fight against Qodron is fundamentally different from any other fight in the game. If that was intentional or isn't something you feel should be changed, then save yourself some time and don't bother reading any further. The issue with Qodron is that the adds spawn on a timer. The containment fields also drop on a timer. The Eye of Qodron spawns in the same increments, determined by the same timer. Because of this, your fight isn't against the adds, or even against the Boss. Your fight is against the timer. You must wipe out the adds very quickly, because more are going to spawn shortly. You must locate and kill the Eye of Qodron, because without the jailbreaker you are going to be in pretty big trouble once the timer runs out. Once you manage to accomplish all of this, you have to throw some damage at Qodron himself before you get locked in containment, and the timer restarts. This is the issue. You are always in a frantic race against the clock. It is fundamentally different than any other current boss fight in the game. The fight isn't fun for me, nor for anyone who I have played with. Its not a good time or something that we look forward to. Its a pain, a chore, a very frustrating experience. When we finally beat the encounter, we don't celebrate, or feel accomplished, we are just glad that its FINALLY over (because it takes forever). If the system ran on Qodron's health meter instead of a timer, it would be different. Or if more than one eye of Qodron spawned, it would be easier to beat the clock. I am not looking to have bosses handed to me, but I don't want to wade into an arena where I don't have to fight the boss so much as fighting the arena itself. I don't know of anyone who actually enjoys going up against Qodron, save for those folks who are so incredible at the game already, that they have to invent ways to be challenged. Please change the add/eye/containment cycle, so it runs on Qodron's health. Or have multiple eyes spawn so they are easier to find.

  • Personally I don't find it too challenging. I've done it before on lvl 34 when no-one on the team was using a mic, including me.

    • Simple strategy is have two titans constantly popping bubbles on the entrance. Sure trickle may increase super time but killing still charges you up. Being at that entrance means all adds including the Eyes of Qodron come to you. Theres a huge gap between containment so you can use that time to focus on boss. Have one handle adds and the other 2 focus on boss. If all 3 have ghally then obviously this becomes easier.

      • Thanks for bringing that thread and comments. =) I was invited in Qodron, 2 days ago for a first contact, and we had to cancel after 2 hours of fight, late in the night. Our leader had beaten him twice in 20 minutes during the week but we failed that day. Coordination is key.

        • The timer mechanics for the boss fight are not the problem. What makes the encounter harder than it actually is is the Trickle modifier which severely increases the recharge time for your grenade and Super attacks. This means taking out the adds takes longer and therefore adds to the time crunch of the fight. But, even with Trickle, there are ways to make the fight much easier. FORGET SHOTGUNS. My team goes into the Qodron fight with Ice Breaker as our secondary weapon. Why? Because, with the jail breaker buff, Ice Breaker destroys the containment nets in one shot. Ice Breaker can snipe the Eye Of Qodron from any distance. And, when it is time to DPS the boss, Ice Breaker does big damage. To get around Trickle, have your team use their Supers on the adds instead of Qodron. Major adds, including the Eye, give more orbs so priorities them so that your team has a good supply of orbs on the ground.

I understand your frustration but disagree it should be changed mainly because of the thing you describe. It's not like every other boss. This game needs variety in its boss mechanics. It's difficult but the constant add pressure is what makes this fight what it is combined with the shield mechanic. Quodrons health itself drops very fast. He isn't a bullet sponge like other bosses. I would rather see more of this. Kinda like the deathsinger. You're on a timer and adds are an obstacle Also the eye is easy to manage depending on where you stay on the map. Going far left makes it more difficult to track it and have it stay near you

          • If you ignore the boss and spend time killing adds and the eye, you can eventually end up with basically no adds then dps the boss. I did it this way just for fun and found it extremely easy, but it was never hard, so maybe my opinion doesn't mean much.

          • It just takes time to get used to it. I 2 manned it. And up until the boss fight I had a 33.

          • This boss is a joke. Shotg7ns and a golden gun are all that is needed. Have beaten this level with buddies and not used qodrons eye once. Very easy. 1 person focuses on ADS. 1 person focuses on Qodrons Eye and is the barrier breaker. 1 focuses on Qodron himself. Too easy.

          • The cycle isn't the problem. The problems that make the fight tedious are: 1. The "Eye" spawns are inconsistent. So (especially that first cycle), you can find yourself contained...and yet you've never even SEEN the Eye. Whic is frankly unfair to the player. 2. The path that the Eye takes to get into range is inconsistent. Sometimes it will spawn left. Sometimes right. sometimes it will climb over the platform to get to you. Other times it will take a leisurely walk around it. 3. The Eye doesn't stand out enough from other adds. Given the sheer number of adds....and that most of them are Hobgoblins that can snipe you from anywhere in the arena. The Eye is too hard to find within all that chaos. Especially when he decides to walk AROUND the platform. He is very easy to lose....or never even see at all. You aren't whining. The problem with the Qodron and Skolas fights is that Bungie spent too much energy making them difficult....and not enough time and energy making them FUN.

            • It's really easy. Trick is knowing where the eye is gonna spawn.... (door on the right behind the boss)

            • The fight isn't that difficult. Besides its one of the few bosses with a mechanic involved instead of just a bullet sponge. We shouldn't complain about that...

              • The bubble timer is too short and the bubble is too hard to pop without the buff IMO to make this fight really enjoyable.

              • We've reached Qodron twice and have spent about 2 hours each time trying to beat him. Usually we just can't find the Eye and the bubble ends up wrecking us. I agree with about not enjoying the battle. We can get through the levels pretty well because we work out a strategy, but the Qodron battle seems so hectic and random. It's not enjoyable.

                  • I think its one of the most fun boss fights in the game. It requires 3 person teamwork. 1 kills adds, one damages quodron and the other kills the eye and alternates between helping the other 2. Takes 15-25 minutes and a fun boss fight.

                    • I hate to tell you this, but Bungie nerfed that and made it easier. The guys I run with the we to go to the right side. We all use full auto shotguns. I like to use found verdict. We take turns on the boss and the ads that come up. We try to get the jailbreak, but if we miss you can shotgun your way out with out the jailbreak. Keep going till the big guy is dead. It used to be harder. When Bungie took the burns off on Skolas is when they changed quadron also.

                      • I have done it with 2 ppl before(me and my best friend captain rhode). It is easy-ish. You go right, find quodron's eye, shot it's eye, and wait for it to come bounding to you, kill it, then break shields, hit quodron, and repeat. I brought in icebreaker, the calling, and dreamwaker(void tracking). He had the queens AR thing, her courtesy, and a dreamwaker(no tracking though). It's all about co-ordination and keeping cool. You just have to look out for the major hobgoblin that comes over every now and then. If you can't get the eye, spray all you can into the bubbles. It's one of the better boss fights in destiny imo.

                        • Left side. Having invective, or super good advice, or a full auto shotgun or other weapon that fires additional shots when a target is missed. One teammate is always attacking boss. One is always shooting ads and looking for the Eye. The third can switch between as needed/ skill of the team. Now Hive with arc burn, that's a whole other painful story. 8)

                          • I like the mechanic. It forces you to find the enemy and kill him within a good timeframe from the detainment. I just shoot off the goblin's head from a mile away and he runs at you as they are programmed to do. He'll just sit there and shoot at you, you kill him when the detainment is announced. Bam. Simple.

                          • Try going right out the door to the spotover there. I'd recommend running Found Verdict, or preferably LoW. As long as you're on the right side the Eye will come to you every time, usually you'll have one almost as soon as you kill the first. Just stay close together, keep an eye on the Eye, and make sure to kill Hobgoblins as fast as possible. Good luck brother, and if you happen to be on XBox One or 360 I'll run through it with you.

                          • After the first eye dies another spawns immediately. You just don't see him right away. He's definitely not on a timer. We've had two players with jailbreaker buff before.
