Those "rifts" are fully controlled by the aircraft itself. Actually, what you're seeing is the aircraft teleporting, or warping. The effect that appears like a rift happens because of the aircraft's speed and the necessary process of moving the molecules of the aircraft and the pilot safely. The same effect happens with ships when they are teleporting, mass and speed also being factors.

Yes, but have you ever considered what else uses, or knows of, the rift system?
-
Rift system's not been fielded by anyone but us. Most others use a warp system that moves into other dimensions.
-
Right. Rifts are therefore subject to invasion by said other forces. That's what we're saying.
-
Without proper system technology, anything that attempts to come through will be destroyed at a molecular level. We lost several aircraft and pilots while first fielding our technology as such.

Edited by Ex PI: 8/8/2015 3:36:43 AMThat's not going to stop the Elder Gods. Believe me. Those losses weren't just accidents. In fact, we have evidence downstairs. Follow me. General Thornton exits the room and enters an elevator. He waves for Crow to come with him. The elevator heads down.
-
Edited by Trashcan Jesus: 8/8/2015 12:38:12 AMPhysically impossible if they were torn apart at the molecular level and scattered. Same thing would happen to anything attempting to come through. Trust me, we've seen it. I'm sure your "gods" aren't stupid. They'll find another way, an easier way, like the same way they came in the first place, through cults.
-
Edited by Ex PI: 8/8/2015 3:37:28 AMThornton laughs. That's just it. It took us three weeks to rehabilitate this stuff, and the only way we found any of it at all was because of a cult summoning event. We've spent a week restoring it. Reality is like a curtain to the Elder Gods. They operate outside it, literally warping physics and the quantum realms to their rules as they pass.
-
Edited by Trashcan Jesus: 8/8/2015 1:00:02 AMAll these -blam!-in' magical entities. Christ I though this place was free of all that... All I can confirm is that if one if these gods attempts to come through, he'd be absolutely obliterated.
-
Edited by Ex PI: 8/8/2015 3:38:50 AMThe elevator stops. A technician in a clean room suit races up. "General Thornton, sir! Are you here to see the debris we pulled from the summoning rift?" Yes, Doctor. This man is a member of the aircraft's parent organization. He turns to Crow. By the way, the only people who really see the Elder Gods as "gods" are themselves and their worshippers. They are really just extremely large and powerful biological entities. They head down a hallway to a shuttered observation room.
-
That renders the process even more impossible. If they're tangible, they can't come through without the module.
-
Edited by Ex PI: 8/8/2015 3:43:03 AMThe general looks concerned. DON'T think about it too much. All the laws of reality are violated by these things. We see it as impossible, but for them it's easy as pie. If anything, they are probably piggybacking on your rift modules, or finding ways to use the prototypes you lost. The observation shutters open. A horrifically damaged F-35 fuselage is suspended by supports on the other side. An entire wing is shorn off, and the vertical stabilizers are wrenched horribly out of position. We recompiled this from mere atoms by taking samplings of the ectoplasm and other materials scattered around the event. It's kind of like a 3-D printing of the last moments this thing was solid. It's made out of a polymer weave we invented in the 70s.

Edited by Trashcan Jesus: 8/8/2015 3:08:16 AM
Don't plot jack my characters, even lowly mercs. I -blam!-ing despise when people do that.
-
Well, that's why I wanted you to narrate this guy. Jacking is not something I take kindly to either.
-
Edited by Trashcan Jesus: 8/8/2015 3:33:05 AM
The fact that you have him despite what I've told you is character jacking.
-
OHHHHH. Ok. Did not know that. I'll change my posts. Make it aircraft debris covered in goo or something. Sorry! I though jacking was making named characters of other people do things, like talking or shooting or getting hurt. My bad!
-
Ok fixed.
-
I always considered it any character. I try to refrain from jacking any character named or unnamed. Back to the logic in that, the aircraft don't defy physics without the device. Like I said, they get torn apart at a molecular level, meaning there wouldn't be anything left at all.
-
Right. So my tech guys scanned the rift anomaly from the summoning event and produced a 3-D model of what was in there before it got vaporized. This includes what was left of the plane before it vanished completely.
-
Edited by Trashcan Jesus: 8/8/2015 5:30:51 AM
Excuse the inconsistency, I've noticed a major major -blam!--up on my part. The teleportation rifts cannot be entered without the device, or exited for that matter. Meaning that, if you don't have the device, nothing happens, you're stuck, and cannot teleport. I've been using that in all the other threads and -blam!-ed up here. I -blam!-ed up my own lore... *rages immensely for being stupid* However, should you get in and the device -blam!-s up, you get atomized, along with the device.
-
K. That's what I figured happened anyway
-
Ugh... Some bullshit.
-
Huh?
-
The fact that I -blam!-ed up my own lore. Makes me mad.
-
Yeah, I get what you mean.
