It's been confirmed by Urk and DeeJ in a very recent IGN video that you will keep your current level. Whatever your light level is now, that will be your level in the taken King. For instance, I am a level 34 Hunter, so for TTK I will also be a 34, and I'll just have to rank up 6 more times to get to max level

Yep here's the video for anybody interested.

We will start TTK with the level we are at now, both XP level and light level. The difference will be that the XP level cap will be raised to 40 from 20.
-
He was vague about it. It could also be interpreted as you go back to level 20 since that is the level you obtained since he said level not light level
-
They keep on saying "you'll start at your current level". If they were really going to shaft us and return us to 20, they'd just say "everyone is going to start at 20" rather than current level.
-
Your current level is 20. Your current light level is 34. DeeJ was vague and for good reason, they probably haven't finalised how it is going to work yet.
-
Your current level is likely 100+ as every mote of light you earn is another level up.
-
Everyone knows their current level is 20, that's why if they really meant everyone would return to level 20, they'd just say so. There's no point in being vague in that aspect.
-
They are vague in everything they say and do like politicians. I'm trying to fathom how they will be able to tell who is level 34 and who is not. If I haven't got my 34 gear equipped when ttk drops does that mean my character won't be 34? If anyone can answer this and figure out how that would even be possible then I will change my belief that we will all be at our current level (20) when ttk drops.......

Edited by jjab2034: 8/8/2015 3:57:46 PMUrk confirmed on Twitter that even if you're not wearing level 34 gear when the DLC comes out you'll still take the highest light level you've gotten. All vagueness is gone. Hallelujah.
-
Thanks for the update but I'm still sceptical on how they will even do this?
-
I find it easier to believe when you think of Bungie as an all-knowing God and all of our Guardians as peasants.
-
Why would they be vague about everyone staying at 34 then?
-
Edited by jjab2034: 8/8/2015 10:50:23 AMWe'll just have to see. I don't think he was being vague on purpose. There are definitely two ways to interpret what he said. Since everyone asking the question is probably over level 20, I think he would've just said we'd be reverted to level 20, instead of making a vague statement.
-
To be honest, i don't think deej himself actually knows, bungie keep him in the dark a lot and then questions like that come up and he doesn't know for certain so he has to sort of dance around the question
-
No, he was not vague at all. It was obvious what he was saying.
-
Nope, not what they said. Multiple videos of bungie saying you start where you are, not 20.
-
No, they were very vague using words such as "you'll be good to go" they never put right said it. It's all speculation. I think we'll drop to 20 but how well you do against enemies is based on your gear rather than your level. If you look at the leak of the first mission, when he selects it is says you gear has to be light level 20 (light level on your gear now just means the level of your gear, not tied to your actual level)
-
For some reason you're not getting it. Rewatch both Ign gamescom videos really slowly. You're definitely not going to 20 they said it multiple times.
-
I suggest you rewatch it too
-
Haha I don't need to because I picked it up, interviewers picked it up, mentors picked it up, only slow people didn't. You'll see it eventually.
