Hey Gang I'm newly back to the game after a bit of an absence so I apologize in advance if my post is pedantic. I have a piece of exotic armor (Voidfang Vestments) that I bought and max-upgraded prior to any expansions. I see that Xur currently sells the same piece of gear but with much better stats. I also see that I am able to upgrade my piece with an Exotic Shard to a "Defense value...to the highest available in Year 1". This makes it seem like doing the Exotic Shard upgrade would do nothing since I've already maxed it out...is this right? If so, I need to re-buy the same piece of armor from Xur and re-level it...?
