Not in expert in all things psychological, but the best I can say in the matter is that they act out due to stereotypes. The public views people who associate themselves as gamers as an older teenage male most of the time. That doesn't help "outsiders" fit in, especially when a weird combination of patriotism and elitism infect many of the members of the group. It is really unfortunate to see this happen though.
