THE OVERHANGING SHADOW: A WORLD EVENT.
LOCATION: Ensmooth, a relatively forgotten town on the coast of Paranorm.
Ensmooth (pronounced Ens-mooth, not In-smooth) is a large, yet mainly derelict fishing town. Its citizens are wary of outsiders, and many share a similar countenance, dubbed "the look", wherein their slightly bulging eyes and oddly pale skin seem unfailingly hostile to all and sundry. There have been a string of disappearances in the town, both locals and outsiders. It came to the Mafia's attention after one of their local chiefs, who ran a salt production factory in the town, disappeared suddenly. They're looking for a team to hunt after their inside man. It's recommended any Hunters that take the job avoid traveling together or being seen publicly together, so as to avoid drawing suspicion. Whatever you find may haunt you, but the riches promised are too great to resist.
The Story so far:
Eva, the Bunkman couple, Etana, Phantom, and Chelovek have arrived in Ensmooth. Several of them have roomed at local innkeeper Burris Gilby's boarding house, while Etana and Chelovek have set off for the north side of town and the three canning and salting factories owned by Roger Albertin, the area's Mafia chief. Both Etana and Chelovek have investigated the factories owned by Albertin, and found nothing. Jaque has investigated a strange presence that has dogged the investigators, but found no source. In the early morning, the group sits down in the boarding house's breakfast room to compare notes and form a plan of action.
((I've designed this bounty to be very cerebral, and it'll take going back through conversations other characters have had to make sense of some things.))
It's a big enough thing that it needs its own thread.
Jaque and faith meet up. The time is ticking. They are around the corner looking at the temple. Jaque waves his hand and he and Faith are covered in a shadow suit that doesn't let sound out even if the big bang occurred with with in the shadows. To most people when these suits are in the shadows people still see them but they think nothing of it because they blend with the shadows. "Check check" they say in they're ear pieces as they infiltrate the temple. They go in unnoticed. As they slowly lurk from shadow to shadow you see the soure of the first shadow is like a thin line as from the next shadow it comes to link to you half way then the first shadow is gone. You see that Jaque's shadow connects to Faiths shadow as the walk in the dim light. It takes five minutes to get to the next room.

faith keeps a hand on her revolver
-
Suddenly, a group of hooded figures with, webbed, clawed hands appear out of the darkness and head towards you. Their speech is inhuman and strange, but it seems to be a chant of some sort...
-
faith turns her laser pointer off and prepares to activate her arm blades
-
The creatures' chant increases in volume. You find yourself unable to move. The lead figure's hand glows a deep green, and it gestures for the two of you to follow him. You find yourself moving, your weapons dropping to the ground, as the Dagonites usher you down a long, spiraled staircase into the darkness.

You are dragged down into a deep, seemingly unending crypt. Blood is smeared on the walls and floors. Each of you is thrown into a cast-iron cell. A man in a dirty, rumpled suit lies in the cell next to yours. It is Roger Albertin.

faith is enraged, she tries to break the bars with her blades but they break

Albertin turns weakly towards you. Jack sent you to fetch me, eh? Won't work. I've tried.

"Yea he did, I wish I waited for the others now."

Edited by Bean Chili: 8/10/2015 3:52:24 PMJaque and Jade sit at the table. They grab some chow when they go to discuss they're findings.
Is this like that dr who episode where flying cubes invade the earth.
-
NO.
You note the inn's happy atmosphere, which is far different from the rest of the town, and the odd fact that Gilby, while he shares the townsfolk's unnerving countenance, bears none of their malevolent psychic signature.
-
Jade can sense the light within Gilby and she speaks up and asks. "Why are you different from all the other people in this town? This inn is happy and the rest of the town is depressed. Is there more people like you?" Jaque feels that presence in the distance and could not help but look at the emerald green building. To Jaque it's not darkness or light, but something sinister.
-
Gilby looks serious. He pulls up a chair and sits across from the group of investigators. My old great-grandad helped build that monstrosity crost' the way. His payment was a marriage to one of Old Marchand's daughters. They went out on the Isle one night, came back with my mother in tow. Devil's talk, my father called it. He loved her, but didn't take stock in her "old gods" as she was wont to callin' em. He raised up me and my brothers right. I'm the last one left, but it seems the curse, at least in my family, is passing out with me, whenever that is.
-
Jaque lifts his hand toward the emerald green building and ask. "What do you know of this building over there?"
-
Burris scowls at the temple. Aye, that's the Dagonite Hall. Their Deep Council's got everyone in the town on it. The Mayor, the Police Chief, the Head Doctor at the hospital. Everybody but the pastor and good Mr. Albertin. Maybe they've got something on him. A grudge, I'd guess.
-
Jaque stands up an walks over to the door and says. "I don't like it." He walks over to the emerald green building and gets that feeling he did before and grabs the handel. He opens the door and walks in.
-
Just as you open the door, a heavy hand seizes your arm. You turn as a hulking man in an unwashed police uniform pulls you away from the door. What does an outsider like you want with the Rite? He shoves his nightstick into your stomach. Speak quick now, or it's off to lock-up!
-
The hulking man senses the darkness within Jaque and the shadows grab ahold of the night stick and throws it in a corner. "What is the rite?" Jaque says
