So I have been thinking about why I have mainly been using my exotic weapon choice in the special or heavy weapon slots. I realized that it is because I can use a raid elemental that is a top tier legendary and has elemental damage which just makes it a better choice over almost every primary exotic in PVE. Which makes it obvious to use an exotic special or heavy. There is no contest. I think this is part of the reason why ice breaker and Gjallahorn have become so popular.
I don't know if others think the same and would love your thoughts but I do have a suggestion for adding elemental to some of the primary exotics. I don't know if Thorn and Bad Juju should get them for some reasons which I might go into in a add on post but the rest of them I think would benefit.
My idea is that we get a type of exotic bounty quest similar to the Elder Cipher in that it makes you choose. You have to choose which element type you want: arc, void, or solar. Then you have to select the exotic it will apply to. You than have to go through several stages of the bounty using that exotic. First stage might be kill so many enemies that have the selected element as a shield with the weapon chosen. (The suggested next stages could use some tweaking but here they are), second stage use the exotic to kill so many guardians in crucible while using the subclass of the chosen element (e.g. I am a warlock and chose solar so I have to use the sunsinger subclass). Final stage use the exotic to get so many kills while the burn modifier of the chosen element is in effect.
What I like about this is: First it lets us customize just a little our primary exotics. Second it makes the decision of which exotic to chose that much harder. Will I use a solar Last Word or my Gjallahorn? Third there could be a modifier to the skin of the exotic based on the element chosen which could make the appearance of each that much more unique. Last it won't actually have an effect on crucible game play but who wouldn't want to show off their Suros that is sparking with arc energy.
If you have managed to read all this please leave your feedback and suggestions to improve this thought.
Edit 1:
A couple of ideas mentioned that I really like.
xBob lv mentioned having to collect something from a vehicle (pike) or a mini boss from story missions (Gate Lord). Great way to include specific PVE elements into the quest.
pecotrain mentioned having kinetic shields or having kinetic rounds do bonus damage after a shield goes down. This idea could work in place of the original idea or work with it. I like how it also opens up new possible modifier options.

They will be...

Only primaries that should stay kinetic: Suros regime Universal remote That's it. The rest should have elemental imo.
-
You are correct. It is also in line with the idea of questing more things in TTK. Yet another option would be to have "kinetic" shields or have enemies weaker to kinetic after their shield drops.

What I really like about this idea is that it gives us another option of what to do with repeat exotics we acquire. If you've got dozens of exotic shards, what's another added to the pile. But if we could "elementalize" our second Hard Light or third No Land Beyond, it adds a new dimension to inventory control and use for repeat acquisitions.

That's what the raid primaries are for. PvE. If exotics had elemental damage you wouldn't use the raid primaries, which defeats the point. I'm not saying they shouldn't have the elemental aspect, but all that would do is make raid primaries irrelevant.

It would be cool but I dont thunk all of them should you know, like they could have that would have elemental but it would have to make sense or else it would be stupid. Plus in the new ign video there was a gameplay of an ar with arc damage and arc energy glowing around the gun

We should get to choose the elemental type of the fly. If I want arc do a quest to get an arc reactor from a heavy pike. Void kill the gate lord for his void rifle. Take the special items to the gunsmith and unlock the elemental attribute. Op is right. I love juju, mida, and red death, but in pve the ad shield type dictates the primary you use. I laugh when people question why I use fatebringer or the fang so much in Poe 35. Most of the stages are fallen. Taking down the captains shields as they run up is huge. Then I switch to shotgun to finish them off as they charge. I would love to use something else but it creates too many close calls or deaths. It's all about dps and staying alive on end game content.
