I understand your perspective, it makes a lot of sense. However
there must be a counterargument somewhere
Destiny is a living game that has been receiving consistent updates and hotfixes over the past year, and that is because it goes beyond the scope of just being an fps where everything is released at once and the devs stamp it with their seal of approval before calling it a day. Sure, destiny is not an mmo, that's a fair argument to make and I personally agree with it, but to make a game last 10 years, the developers need to push people to actually play new content for new gear, it just makes sense (jafeel?). TTK is not designed to be a sequel to the game, we know that, but Destiny doesn't have a sequel. With most mmos, there's a place and a time for the story to go, and destiny is different because it actually doesn't have a storyline that's already been set (by which I mean the game can't physically expand on something that hasn't happened yet). Bungie may have a plan for the story that we don't know, but regardless of that, the gear makes the player play. Without rewards to earn the game would be utterly pointless past year 1. Now I'm not saying you should scrap everything and just work for new stuff, but there is no reason to defend why your guns should be upgradable. Think of it also as a story expansion: When you explore newer places, you get newer gear that outlevels your old gear. it just makes sense If everyone could upgrade their old stuff there would be so many different mechanics and weapons that were being used in the places of the newer guns Bungie took time to develop. They want to see their hard work mean just as much as our dedication to the game. And finally, I have to disagree with your remarks about guns giving a player experience. Guns in destiny are stat sticks. You choose certain weapons over others in events because of what their perks are or how much of a stat they have. I don't think I ever played a raid with a crucible weapon because they simply aren't designed for that activity. Guns provide players with the tools they need to complete activities to earn more rewards. TL;DR You make good points, but the benefits of upgrading old Legendaries is greatly outweighed by the benefits of not being able to. Imo.....
